Any of you guys that reload got a good reloading forum you suggest? I have visited several, many that are sub-forums of gun groups and are ok but I'm looking for a more reloading dedicated site to settle in.

When I first started reloading many years ago, I thought it would be great to tailer my handgun loads to a particular firearm. After a year or so of trial and error , I gave that idea up.

(I currently reload for .380 acp & .45 auto, 9mm & .223 Rem.)

It's a much better idea & safer, to load ammo that will oprate in any modern firearm of that caliber.

That's the way factory ammo is because it has to work/function in any firearm. They do this by loading ammo to the upper end for pressure, but still safe & reliable.

The way to accomplish this is to find a factory ammo that you like the way it performs & copy it.

This involves choosing a quality powder with proven performance for that caliber, the proper bullet, a couple quality reloading manuals & a chronograph to track the rounds performance. Then a large amount of testing while you work your loads up to the velocity of the factory ammo you like.

I normally work a load up by making 7-10 test rounds, going slow, follow the reloading info. & never exceed max loads. It also helps to have some Ziploc bags to separate & identify your test rounds & a notebook to log everything you do. Most of all be safe.

When I reload, I don't want any distractions.

I really enjoy it. My wife says we shoot so I can reload!

*Note: I am talking about reloading for semi-auto pistols when I am discussing function. I currently do not have revolvers. Reloading for Cowboy Action Shooting wheel guns is a whole different animal IMO.

Just about any gun forum will have a reloading sub-forum. Many of the contributors write for some of the popular gun magazines as well. You may recognize some by their writing style. No reloader will reload without a reloading manual by his side though just to verify max load recipes. Reloading requires 100% concentration. I don't even have music playing when I'm reloading. A double charge could ruin your day later when you least expect it. I do most of my reloading during the winter months when riding might be seldom anyway. I find it just as relaxing, once I have a recipe I like, as riding.
