Anybody doing the Run For the Wall

Not going to be able to make the run, but visited that memorial when it was first built and it is an engineering MARVEL! Whoever designed it really put a lot of thought into it as the memorial was designed so it would cast a shadow on the soldiers name on the anniversary of the date of his/her death. Brilliant, I think.

The RFTW travels thru and spends the night in Las Cruces, NM. The Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, 47-1, which I am the Chaplain, is responsible for the events for this stopover. Usually 400-600 bikes are traveling thru. We feed, have a welcoming ceremony and provide a place to rest and spend the night. Next morning a wreath laying ceremony is held at the Vietnam Veterans Monument. A busy couple of days and a couple of months to get it together. Worth every minute.

I was looking over the event data sheet and at some stops the gas has been donated other places meals are provided by a local organization or group etc.

I would like to find one of the sights where a pretty nice crowd has gathered to pay respect as the riders pass.

The Southern group will stop in Big Spring Texas Tomorrow 5/20/2017 and lay a Wreath at the VN Memorial. Then travel about 40 miles East on I20 to Colorado City Texas where the entire town comes out. They will feed the Group. It will be the 4th year I will be out to Greet them

The riders stopped in Las Cruces last evening. We had a receiving ceremony, fed them, had service avail to repair bikes, got them places to sleep, fed them this morning, wreath laying ceremony at the Veterans Park and escorted them out of the city. Tonights stop is in Odessa, TX.

If you get to link up, make sure you get a look at the custom trike that is being given to a disabled vet. Big surprise for the new owner. I believe the count was 360 riders.

I was the MC of the activities. I have done this for the last 4 years and love every minute. Jim

I have one picture of the trike. If you can see it, there are two hand brake levers, for the front and rear and no foot brake pedal. The soldier lost his right foot. The paint is so nice. All of the rivets are not rivets, painted on, awesome. I sure hope you get a chance to see this. mil trike.jpg
