    Default Ride Report

Went for a ride today. Been in the house for the last week with gout.

Left the house about 1130 headed south east. Went through Post and Fluvanna and stopped at Rolling Thunder and had a beer with a school administrator from Colorado City, didn't get his name. Saw some familar faces and left after about 30 minutes.

Headed southeast until Snyder and turned east. Went over to Roby and filled up with gas. Took 70 north until it ran into 380. Turned east to Post and came back home. A little over 200 miles.

It was great to get out of the house. Was the ride great? All rides are great.

    Hi Rod,

I was in you neck of the woods last September. Dean & I belong to SCRC (Acadiana 239). We were due to be in Granbury in the last week of September for the Texas SCRC Family Reunion (their version of a rally), so we chose to leave early and make a little circle.

We rode East TX (Nachodochees, Marshall) than entered Oklahoma at Ardmore for Turner Falls, Lawton for MT Scott, and a burger at the Meers Store. We then rode to Amarillo for the American Quarter Horse Museum. Next we visited Palo Duro State Park, back to Amarillo and down US 287 to to Claude, TX 207 to Silverton where we ate a great burger at a little cafe full of great West TX folks. They couldn't believe we were just out riding to see west Texas. Six of them came out side to watch us gear up, and had thousands of questions.

We over-nited in Lubbock for next day's visit to the Ranch Heritage Museum at the College (a must-see).

On Thursday we rode US 84 though Post, Fluvanna to US 170 east. We rode US 180 east to Metcalf Gap south to Strawn (Mary's Cafe)

I had spotted Mary's cafe on a Fort Worth SCRC site when they rode there one day. I wrote it down. When she asked how we find her place, I told her. Mary also made a big deal out of our stopping in her place.

She introduced us to the entire place (about 25 Texans in the place).

We then rode TX 16 and FM 8 to Stephen ville and US 377 east to Granbury.

Did I come anywhere close to where you live....!!!

    Hay Wilson,

Sounds like a sweet ride. Yes, you passed within a half mile of where I live. I live out in the country between Lubbock and Post about 1/2 from 84.

Most people write off West Texas because they think there is nothing to see. In a way that is nice because when we go places around here like Palo Duro, the Ranch Heritage Center, Buddy Holley center, the canyons, and a lot of other great places there is no one there but us. I may be letting the cat out of the bag, but the Llano Estacata is a great place to ride.

Next time you are headed this way, post on this site and let me know, we can get together and have some fun.

Llano Estacata is the name the Spanish gave to this area, the panhandle of Texas, a long time ago. It means "Staked Plains". The Spanish would travel from Santa Fe, NM to trade with the indians in Palo Duro Canyon and other canyons. The sage brush was so tall they couldn't see over it and land marks were hard to come by so they would drive stakes in the gound, sorta like the bread crum thing. The stakes were painted and/or carved in such a way to identify different traders and places they lead to.

Looked at some of your pictures, really nice pictures. Looks like you travel a lot.

    Yes Sir, Being retired helps.

We purchased an '01 yellow Wing in April '01 but didn't start touring until she retired in May of '02. I traded the yellow Wing the last week of December '04 (103,500 miles in 44 months) and triked the grey '05. The last half of '02, all of '03 & '04 were by far our biggest riding year.

I didn't discover the PICASA (free) site until mid '07. I went back to '05 with the pics, but just had too many pics to go back any farther. (LOL)

We don't have many '06 pics. I discovered a malignat tumor under my left chin (under a beard) at Christmas time in '05.

Diagnoses, removal, radiation treatments, a recovery peroid, all pretty well ate up Jan through Sept '06 . The last week of September '06 was my first "almost back to normal" ride for '06. We rode to Kerrville for a week of Hill Country riding, then to Burnet for the TX SCRC Family Union.

what a great feeling that was after 9 months of lay up.

Hopfully, '08 will allow us to resume our smile gathering, mile rolling, touring experience. We still have 9 states to cover. (LOL)

WOW, I thought being laid up a week with gout was a real bummer. Nothing like the big C. I'm glad to hear you doing OK now.

    Default Ride in Geogia

:eek:Went on a beautiful ride in the Geogia hils yesterday, was 80 degrees! We rode to Warm Springs, outside Columbus, and visited a "leather" shop for us biker types, and had a bareque sandwich (man southerners make some KILLER "Q" ) We had a great ride. Didn't see alot of bikes, like we usually do, but I think the nice weather took everyone by surprise. It rolled in behind the nasty stuff that hit Atlanta a couple days ago.Jim

I know the feeling Jim, my wife sent me to the store yesterday for a loaf of bread. (store is 3 miles). Decided to just ride the trike. Me and that loaf of bread rode for about 2 hours.... It was beautiful!

My situation is that if I was sent to the store, and moved the trike out of the garage,my wife would be fully dressed in her gear and ready to go, before I got the thing warmed up!!! Glad you got your face in the wind for a spell, makes Mondays easier to take! Jim

    Default Ride to San Simeon

Our group of six; on two trikes and two GW1800s; had a beautiful 3 dayer in San Simeon (CA) visiting Hearst Castle and the local ice cream shops. Still a bit breezey but a great ride along Hwy 1.
If you are planning a trip along the CA coast, please take one of 4 two hour tours of the castle. The architecture, the swimming pools and planning of the gardens is very well worth the $18 ticket price.
The vistors center has a food court, coffee "shop", two sets of bathrooms, & great knick-knacks that range in price from 2bucks to 2000. So even if you don't take the tour, it's a nice stop.

Default Ride Report - KY, SC, and AL

Just returned from a trip to Kentucky, South Carolina, and Alabama.

Visited a buddy in Libery, Kentucky and his 87 year old mother. His mother gets around better than we do.

Went to Charleston, SC, I was stationed there while in the navy. Last time I was there was 1970. Some things sure have changed a lot other things not so much. The south battery is pretty much the same. We ate some good sea food in Mt. Pleasent.

Saw my new grandson in Alabama. He is the best looking, smartest, well you get the idea. Had a great time with my dauther and son in law.

Took about 200 photos, most just of people, dogs, and of course grandson.

We ran into hail, fog, snow, rain, and dodged tornados. I was glad to be in a cage for a change.

Next month I ride to California and back. Can't wait.
