Question What do you use to wash these things.

Got a few miles on my 2017 now which means I also have put on a few bugs and grime.

What do you do to clean them up.

    Soap?

    Wash?

    Windshield cleaner or Protectant?

I don't want to damage the finish or windshield by using the wrong product.

I could do it the same as my other vehicles but that may not be good.

    Thanks

    Bob

For washing I use water and simple green.

For cleaning between washes I use 303 Speed Detailer (thank you Zammy)

Every now and then for the chrome I'll use some Never Dull, and every now and then for the windshield I'll use Novus.

I use a foam cannon on my electric pressure washer and then rinse with a 40 degree tip - and not too close! Thing looks like a marshmallow when foamed, but it really works great. Then I blow dry it with an electric blower that has a very clean (never used as a vacuum) hose with a nozzle. Finish with a good fluffy microfiber towel. Quick and easy.

But, it only gets this treatment after a long trip and has a million bugs and dirt on it. I used the same method on my '07 Ultra that I had since it was new. Never caused a problem. Just be sensible when using a pressure washer. That's why I use an electric with broad spray tip a couple of feet away.

In between I use Pledge on all painted and chrome surfaces. Plexus on the windshield.

    You asked,

    Gary

Guess I do it all wrong as I go to the shop and get it cleaned. Pay the guy couple of buck. Get it back sparkling clean just like new.

A hose. A bucket. Dawn dishwashing detergent. A soft cloth. It ain't rocket surgery.

If the 'shield has bugs, put a towel with water on it for a few minutes. Then you can hose it off.

Keep in mind rocks hit it at 70 PH. How much damage is water going to do?

    Cool

I use a bug sprayer with simple green and water in it mixed 12 oz to the gallon of water mixed well, then spray the whole Tri down wait a bit and hose off with a heavy stream of water from the hose. Finish with a leaf blower and then a micro towel with turtle wax ice. Works every time and here in FL we get a lot of bugs.

Just be careful with simple green it is great for the environment but not so much for wheels just sayin.

Light Wash - spray bottle with diluted car wash soap and water and microfiber towels.

Dirty wash - local self-serve car wash and the spot free wash is amazing! Yes, I ensure the spray isn't getting anywhere too strongly.

Favorite detailing are Original Bike Spirits and/or Meguiars Quick Detail spray

Bugs - Hydrogen Peroxide and water mixed 50/50. Bugs literally melt off and it won't harm the paint, chrome, or windshield.

Tons of great stuff to wash your bike with.....but one thing that works for me. After hosing the beast down, I lay a very large bath sheet across the windshield and fairing and soak that thing down. I then wash the rest of the bike continuing to hose the towel down. By the time I get to the always "Pain in the Ass" bug collector of a fairing / Windshield, those bad boys now just hose off. Me likey......Just a thought

I have recently switched to Hogswipe and I love it! I'm even using it on my cars.

    http://www.hogswipe.com/

I previously used Bugslide or other auto detail sprays. Hogswipe is superior for making fine scratches disappear and leaves a slick surface that seems to collect a lot less dust.

For the wheels I use Armor All Ammonia free glass cleaner with a hot water rinse.

Ditto brother- nuthin' fancy! I do use my leaf blower to dry though. Tried the air blaster but took three times as long as leaf blower.

Yes, I've heard the same thing. I use 3-4 ounces of it in a couple of gallons of water...never had any issues. I think it has to be a pretty heavy concentration, and then be rinsed off.

    Lots of good suggestions!!

Just the reason I asked the question here.

My wife washed it while I mowed the lawn.

Went with good old fashioned dawn soap.

Also draped a bath towel over the windshield and fairing and sprayed it down a couple times while washing the rest of the bike.

That made the bugs come off great.

Will wax it sometime soon with Turtle Wax.

    Thanks

    Bob

Bob Turtle wax is good but believe me there are a lot better stuff out there for shine and ease of application. I used similar stuff till Santa brought me Motorcycle stuff in a gift Pack will not go back to car wax ever again. Not knocking the Turtle but may want to look at others just sayin... Ya kno. polish freely fred

On a trip I carry a small spray bottle with 50/50 hydrogen peroxide and water. Spray the windshield ... wait a couple seconds and wipe off with a soft cloth. Comes clean as a whistle, especially bugs.

I found a car wash mixture on one of my TV forums recently and it really works. Doesn't leave water spots, keeps a shine, and even adds some protection. It is a 50/50 mix of McGuires Gold car wash and Turtle Wax Ice car wash, both of which I found at Wally World. Then I dry with leaf blower.
