Default Love Jugs Temp Comparison Test Report

We've done quite a bit of testing with the Love Jugs Fans.

We tested both the Cool-Master and the Mighty-Mite.

We tested on Air-cooled and Twin-Cooled, both on 2 wheelers and Trikes.

All the tests results were very similar. Below are the results for an Air-Cooled Twin Cam 2 wheeler.

This particular Twin Cam already had many of the cooling components outlined in this REPORT installed, so the temps already were much lower than a factory Twin Cam.

However, as you can see in the Love Jugs test results below, the fans were effective in providing significant additional cooling.

    .

There were 5 different tests with each fan type.

The first two tests were a combo, showing what the temperatures got to with the fans off, then showing what the temps cooled down to once the fans were turned on.

All tests were conducted the same day, same gas, same roads, same speed, same wind conditions. On all but the last test, variables were 99% eliminated, to give us a true comparison.

On the last test, stop-n-go traffic, it was impossible to keep the variables even close, thus the slight variance in results.

    .

We are not selling these (nor receive any referral fee), but we do recommend them as one of the components in an overall strategy of taming the heat on both the Twin Cam and Milwaukee-Eight. You can see our complete Report on why and how to Cool down your ride HERE.

If you do choose to use the Cool-Master or Mighty-Mite, we recommend you get them at www.buylovejugs.com, call (346) 800-7946 and if you mention that we referred you, they'll put a little something extra in your package for you.

    Key to the above chart:

Amb= Ambient Temperature at the time of the testing

CHT= The front cylinder head temperature as measured by the OEM factory sensor, and displayed on the Power Vision as ET

FC= Temperature measured with a heat gun, directly behind the spark plug on the Front Cylinder

RC= Temperature measured with a heat gun, directly behind the spark plug on the Front Cylinder

    .

On the last test, stop-n-go traffic, it was impossible to keep the variables even close, thus the interruption in the pattern of the Mighty-Mite fans being superior in the other tests.

It is readily apparent, in the data below, the Mighty-Mite fans do a better job overall than the Cool-Master, and are Significantly better at cooling the Rear Cylinder than the Cool-Master.

We have our theories of Why the MM's are better than the CM's, but in the end it doesn't matter, they both cool the engine down, and the MM's do it better.

We are not selling these (nor receiving any referral fee), but we do recommend them as one of the components in an overall strategy of taming the heat on both the Twin Cam and Milwaukee-Eight. You can see our complete Report on why and how to Cool down your ride HERE.

Kevin, Your results are amazing to me given that the Cool-Masters fans are larger in size and the Might Mites. However, the CM fans run at a much lower speed which may account for the some of the cooling effectiveness differences? Do you find that the CM fans are significantly quieter at idle than the MM fans that run at much higher rpms?

    What? What did you say?

hahaha, Mary says my hearing is not the best.

I did get other folks to listen to them also. The MM's maybe have a little higher pitch to them. But my bet is that they are very close to the same on a decibel meter. Everyone, not just myself, thought the noise level sounded very close to the same, with the MM's being a little higher pitched.

I think the reason for the difference in the cooling is the placement of the air being moved. I have no proof of that, it is just a theory.

Great data Kevin. This should remove any doubt to those who think that you dont need to run your Love Jugs when at speed, which is just not true. Speed increases the load on your engine, as it is burning more fuel, producing more internal heat, increasing cylinder and oil temperature and clearly the Love Jugs are working.

Rear cylinder heat at speed without the fans is 320 degrees, with the fans, the temp drops to 248 degrees. Thats a drop of 72 degrees. The fans are critical for stop and go, in traffic, but are also a engine saver on the open road as well.

As for the slight difference in the numbers between the Cool Masters and Mighty Mites, the Cool Masters turn at 7500 RPM and The Mighty Mites run at 13,000 RPM, which may be a factor but a very small factor. I have sold quite a few of both the Cool Masters and the Mighty Mites and the reports are very positive on both.

They stay on whenever the the bike is in the on position if plugged into the accessory outlet under the seat. They also have a manual on-off switch on the fans to turn them off any time you want.

    Zook,

On the '14, you needed the accessory switch kit to turn on the accessory Deutsch connector undr the left side cover. Is it the same for the '17 TG? I have the fans installed but not connected yet, since the accessory switch kit was not in stock at the local dealer. Really did not want to cut the connector off and wire it directly to the battery if not necessary.

    thanks!

I would like to also point out that if you are in the market why not consider purchasing from Papa Zook HERE. He will give you a good price and great service. Plus you will help keep this site in business.

Also as an added note. I have not been asked by either Papa Zook or DK to mentioned the purchase from them but if you are on this forum and getting input, information and ideas then spend a buck or two extra and support the sponsors and owner.

I bought mine from Papa Zook and had the same thought when I read the end of Kevin's report. I know he and Randy work closely and share info. It could be that because Papa Z is the founder of TT he did not want make appear he was the only source for Love Jugs. (But when you get ready to buy, click that ad to the right!!)

Before I bought I had questions and Papa Z must have spent 15 minutes answering and explaining the differences between the Cool Masters (which I bought because I like the looks of better) and the Mighty Mites. He told me the testing had been done but had not been published and didn't want me to buy something I would regret once the numbers were out. I don't have any regrets. When I recommend them to anyone I will give out his contact info!

The only question I have about the test is where the temps were taken on the cylinder. I assume it was with a digital thermometer. I shoot mine at the base of the spark plug and don't get that much difference between the cylinders, some maybe 15* - 25* or so, but usually not any more.

Oh, sorry, I was so focused on letting folks know I was supporting the forum/not trying to take away from it...I did not answer your question.

I use an infrared temp gun to measure the front and rear cylinders. The CHT number comes directly from the ECM...which is a reading from the sensor that is at the back left side of the front cylinder.

When using the temp gun I shoot right behind the spark plug. I use exactly the same spot, distance and angle for both the front and rear... variance in spot, angle or distance will significantly change the temp reading. Also, as little as 20 seconds time difference, after shutting the engine off, in taking the measurement will vary the temp reading.

The difference in front and rear cylinder temps is greater the faster the trike is traveling. Slow moving and the temps even out between the cylinders. If you look at the stop-n-go chart, the front and rear are pretty much the same.

If you look at the ones rolling fast, that is where the bigger differences are...and I did not take my time coming to a stop from speed to get the temps. I stopped as quickly as possible from 75 mph and got the temps right around 30 seconds from when I was doing 75 mph.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks for posting this info Kevin. I purchased the Mighty Mites from Papa Zook and have been running them for 2 - 3 months but I do not have a thermal gun so had no way to check temps myself. I have the Deluxe Tank Lift, external breather and Night Rider VIEDs along with the Mighty Mites and a de-catted head pipe and hopefully all of this is helping with the heat issue on my 2015 FLRT.

I can hear the MMs at an idle but once above an idle I can't hear them at all. So to me there is no problem with the sound. The quality of the MMs is excellent and the service from Papa Zook was also excellent. I ordered them and they arrived the next day. I think they are well worth the money spent.

On the '14, you needed the accessory switch kit to turn on the accessory Deutsch connector undr the left side cover. Is it the same for the '17 TG? I have the fans installed but not connected yet, since the accessory switch kit was not in stock at the local dealer. Really did not want to cut the connector off and wire it directly to the battery if not necessary.

    thanks!
    Mark,

Yes, the '14 and up all use the 8 pin adapter plug.

And thank you all for your orders, I very much appreciate it. Both sites are the same source, the new one is just the more modern Woo Commerce ecommerce platform. Eventually all links will go there.

Good points. I have edited my original report notes. The bike we tested on also has quite a few cooling components already on it...that is why the temps started out 40-60 degrees below a factory bikes temps. Still the test shows how the fans cooled it down even more.

Yes, anything we can do to help cool these down will be good for performance, And for engine longevity.

Thats a drop of 52 degrees.

    Hey Zook!

That is a 72 degree drop!
