    Default Full Swivel Hitches

    This is most important when pulling a trailer with a m/c.

    Basically there are 2 types of m/c trailers out there. Small ones intended to be towed by a car, but, because of their small size, are marketed to the m/c community, and m/c specific tow behind trailers. The m/c specific tow behind trailers have 3 district features making them much more safe to use.

    - a full swivel hitch that allows the trailer to flip without flipping the m/c too

    - independent suspension with a sway bar. This helps keep the trailer tires on the ground and less likely to flip.

    - an upward bend in the hitch bar. It helps keep the motorcycle's rear tire on the ground while braking in a curve. Having a straight bar can be scary when coming into a curve to fast, having to brake, and dealing with a rear tire wanting to lift off the pavement.

    Below are examples of trailers that do not have all 3.

    New too triking , should i get a swivel hitch for a trike also....

    I have pulled a trailer many miles w/o a swivel on my two wheels BUT have yet towed my trailer on the trike... Americade is coming up and I will B towing my trailer then..

    Regarding the need for a swivel hitch and a trike ... I'm not sure, so hopefully someone with more expertise will chime in.

    Don't know why you would need a swivel hitch on a trike. A trike doesn't lean like a two wheeler.

    That was my "thoughts" also...........

    I've been pulling a trailer on a two wheels since 02 w/o a swival hitch and never had a problem.... {but then again, I always rode it slow and never exceeded the speed limit and never over loaded it while pulling my trailer}

    next weekend is Americade, i'll be testing out my new trike, while pulling my trailer, this will be my first real trip...............

    Thank You, Gregg, for all your help all these years on the other board (i have kinda strayed away myself from that board due to the many Azz holes) Way too many folks with big mouths, that just couldn't keep it shut, and keep their stupid comments to themselves ....Silly, silly, silly!

    Default Wouldn't be without one

    Even though I ride a Triglide, I thought I'd throw my two cents in having owned several Gold Wings. I've towed a Quick Camp years ago as well several cargo only trailers behind both my various m/c's and cars, I would not be w/o one. Had the unfortunate experience of having my Quick Camp flip just outside Yellowstone. I was driving my Miata that trip. I would hate to think of the possible damage to the hitch assy and or the frame were there not a swivel hitch on the trailer tongue. I would not want to subject the rear cross frame of a trike to the twisting stress caused by a trailer flipping that did not have a swivel hitch.
