Does the open-close handle come off? The little detent ball come out and the spring is bent alittle. I got the vent out of the pocket but not the arm off.

Yes ... at the out, center, of the arm is a peel-off end sticker. Under the metal looking sticker is the bolt you are looking for.
I believe I have a new sticker, ball, and spring in stock. I used to sell them as a kit on my web page. The parts I stock are for OEM vents. Honda only sells the vent assy. Let me know if you need a kit.
Please keep in mind that anytime I share or give advice about a motorcycle, unless I state otherwise, I am always referring to GL1800's and no other.
Thanks for the info. I think I can get the ball and spring back in there.
The screw under the covering sticker sometimes works loose and the little ball flees to wherever dropped screws, pen tops, lone socks and such go to hide. I carry some correct size ball bearings from an old caster for the vent, and I keep one of those slotted/phillips screwdrivers that are bent on the ends and a spring in the tools on the trike. The bent screwdriver lets you loosen and tighten the screw without removing the vent.
Usually the ball will disappear before things are too loose for the spring to go missing. But just in case the spring joined the ball I picked up a spring from a broken vent just for the asking at my local friendly Honda shop. Someone lost their ball, ordered a new vent assembly and had the shop change it out. Never hurts to ask. I have been able to reuse the screw cover by being very careful removing it, some black tape may work, or just live with coverless.
