    Default Battery tender on the can bus trikes

    I know harley now installs the battery tender plug on bikes they sell. Just wondering if anyone has checked theirs out to see where the battery tender plug is hooked to especially on the rushmore trikes. Yes I know, I could do it myself, just wondering if anyone has checked it out for doing something to their bike especially if changing the battery in it.

    My other 2 bikes have the battery tender plus and after driving them and hooked back up it takes maybe 10 minutes or less to go to green, on my 2016 triglide it takes way over an hour to go green, not sure why and maybe it could be all the electronics and computer crap on it, not sure, the other 2 bikes are a 1997 and 2002

    Just make sure you hook it up to the battery will not hurt the can bus.

    Default 2016 different.

    On my 2016 Tri Glide the connector is on the left side and hangs down close to the exhaust crossover pipe. I wish they had left it on the right side like previous models. I think they started this on the 2014 models. Also, mine is wired into the main wiring harness, NOT to the battery. You can of course add a new one to the right side and straight to the battery. The end protective cover on mine has managed to touch the crossover while hot, and has melted part of the smaller plug end. From what I can tell, if you ever had to replace it, you would have to follow it up under the seat area, cut it off and splice a new one into the line. That wouldn't be what I would really want to do.
    16 TGU Mysterious Red / Velocity Red. FM Ceramic Head pipe and FM E-Series tunable exhaust. PV Target Tune-AT WB Tuner. DK Outlaw 606 AC with EBS, Ward’s FCS fans. DK Custom Oil filter/Cooler relocation kit, Comfort Lift and 14 inch shocks. DK tank lift, wind deflectors, floorboard extenders, and tour pak relocator. Chrome TGU wheels. Bad Ass Lights tail lights. Lighted controls and Krome Works 2+2 narrow handle bars.

    My 16 has the Harley cables and not sure where they go. I just

    hook up the battery tender and some times it takes proly half an hour

    to go green. I just hook it up after a ride and go in the house.

    Thanks MDF48, mine is on the left side, I added a zip tie to keep it in place. As for the wiring to the main harness, that is how mine is most likely, haven't got into it yet, but the next time I take the seat off I will check it out, if in the wiring harness I may put one to the battery since I have a extra one, not sure how I got a extra one. Could be why it takes so long to go green, not connected to the battery per se. But as long as it goes green that is what matters.

    Thanks for the replies, really wasn't sure how harley did it and I guess I should have looked at it myself instead of doing a post I guess.

    Left side, and I did zip tie it so I don't have to dig for the plug up. I also bought a battery tender USB adapter that I use to charge things. It easily plugs into the same location as the battery charger. Jim

    Mine hung there until it melted the cover. I now have it coming out the top between the seat and the side cover. Doesn't get in the way when my wife is on and I don't have to stand on my head to hook it up.

    My 17 had it hanging there also... I just zipped tied it up a little higher behind the side cover...

    My 2016 has the connector on the right side zip tied to the frame. That's the way it was when I picked the trike up new; also mine is connected directly to the battery

    I use molasses to charge mine. It's a treacle charger!

    Seriously, mine just tucks under the edge of the seat on the left. I run the trickle charge (with extension from Amazon) over the seat cause my plug is on the left.

    I want a charge pack that plugs into the Harley plug thingy. Why must I remove the seat if my battery dies?

    Mine is zip tied to the left passenger floorboard mount (under the floorboard). You can't see it with the floorboard down. Easy flip up and connect when I get home. I use a battery Tender Plus 12V 1.25amps and I go green in less than 5 minutes. We do have a BIG battery. My smaller cycles use the .5 amp smaller Battery Tender and indeed go green in a few minutes.
