Does anyone make/sell a 50cc moped trike which supports a 300+ lb max load capacity?

Howdy folks....first timer here ~

First off....if anyone wants to suggest or tranfer to a better forum category for my basic question, please fire away.

I'm a 73 year old guy who has been using a (15mph) trike electric mobility scooter for the last few years and both myself and my pup enjoy it thoroughly. It has the advantage of being able to enter stores and other buildings because of the American Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, but mine has a significantly limited distance range...less than 20 miles per charge.

Due to that limitation, and the (actual 13 mph) top speed, I'm considering also getting a gas trike moped to solve both of those issues....and one with a floorboard so that my dog can ride between my legs. Here's the dilemma....I really am not anxious to get that much more speed, especially for safety purposes, but I have other reasons as well, including a greater range.....and I live in an area that is mostly level.

In short, I think I'd much prefer to get a 49.5/50cc trike that won't require a motorcycle endorsement on my driver's license and place other vehicle laws and DMV expenses and requirements on me that come with any displacement over 50cc. My biggest problem is that I weigh just over 300 lbs and most all the 50cc trikes I see have max weight loads of about 220-250 lbs. I called the Ice Bear company in CA. and the person I spoke with contacted some of his tech colleagues for me about how strict this spec is and was told that primarily it had to do with the limitations of the belt drive.

To make a long story come to an end somewhere......does anyone know if there's a good, reliable quality 50cc trike anywhere on the market that can support 300 or more lbs?

Thanks for the welcome and thanks for the reference. I took a close look at your trike and while it certainly has a fantastic weight capacity, the max weight capacity is only 50 lbs higher, the top speed is lower and the range is about the same compared to the the unit I currently own, so I'd be losing a bit rather than gaining anything. But I've never seen that unit before and appreciate knowing about it.....I've put it on file for future reference....thanks again.

Thanks for the welcome and the comment...I get your drift and we tend to think alike on that matter. Actually I usually have the additional weight of 1. Me..310 lbs 2. My dog (16 lbs) and 3. Whatever else I purchase at the store(s) (? lbs), so it's a good bit more than 20 lbs. In other words, how many straws before we come to the breaking limit...? Essentially, I don't want to test the limits any more than I have to.....see my message in another post that I will make after this one. I may have found my own answer when I continued hunting online after posting on this forum earlier this evening. Thanks again!

I kept hunting online after my initial post on this forum earlier this evening and waddaya know, I found a Bingo...I think. I was extra curious about a model being sold by a firm called saferwholesale.com but since the max load spec wasn't posted on the web page I gave their 24/7 telephone number a call. The fellow who answered claims it has a max load rating of 340 lbs....WOW!...NOW WE'RE TALKIN'!!!!

When I asked this same rep about whether it's an Ice Bear product, he said it was...(it looks an awful lot like their Mini-Cruzzer with it's front basket), but the Cruzzer only has a 220 lb. max load rating, and I also can't find this Starfire model on the Ice Bear web site........hmmmm!

This is the only 50cc, 300+ lb max load I've found. If anyone knows about any others, please chime in!

Actually, I have considered that option, but I truly appreciate your idea. There is a compartment underneath my seat that could hold four more SLA batteries which could be hooked up in parallel. There's also the option of going to LiPo batteries which weigh less and cost considerable more. I really should reconsider going this route, but one of the factors that hasn't been mentioned yet is that my vendor has gone out of business, and historically I've been unable to find anyone to service the electric mobility scooter....certainly not within a hundred mile radius. Now that I can't even get parts for scooter except for universal items like batteries and tires, if this thing goes south on me for any reason, I'm dead in the water and lose my entire investment.

On the other hand, there is an Ice Bear dealer/service rep within twenty miles of my residence, so parts and service would be available for the gas trike. Decisions, decisions, decisions........

I'm a bit perplexed as to why you would think that was my expectation. The indoor use feature is something that I would definitely miss if I didn't have it, but as I've stated previously, I was considering the gas trike as an addition to having my trike electric mobility scooter because of the considerably greater range and improved speed. Also, many of the stores now have electric carts that can be used once you arrive there, and I already have a cargo trailer that could be hitched to the gas trike which commonly has a ball hitch as standard equipment.
