Front spindles incorrectly installed
A friend brings his Wing in requesting that the wiring to his Ring-of-Fires (ROF) be routed correctly. Upon removing the left one, this is what I noticed. The etch mark on his front axle is not aligned correctly to the fork, and I've never seen one out of alignment that far. Proper alignment here is critical. If off even a little, it can affect either front caliper from not "sliding" correctly on their "rails" or slide points. Additionally, the front forks need to move up and down together and inline with one another.
After doing everything to get the axle to move rightward, or the fork to move leftward, I removed the front tire to inspect the axle, the seal collars, and the axle's fork bores that the axle is installed in. I found an incorrect seal collar. As a foot note ... to loosen the axle nut required a 5 ft extension on a 2 ft breaker bar. I don't do tires, so he has all his tire work done at a local dealer.
Another issue he is having, but currently not addressing is a lack of fork movement. Actually, there is no up or down movement at all. Since it's a 2001, my first guess would have been a seized Anti-dive valve. However, after finding this, it makes me wonder if the lower fork bushing(s) is/are seized in their fork slider(s).
When a Wing comes here, I am always surprised what I find.
I'm old school, if something isn't going together right, its assembled incorrectly.
