Default Blue ridge Parkway/Skyline Drive Pics

Well, the trip went extremely well and only hit 10 minutes of rain in 6 days. I left Thursday 7/20 at 6:00 am from Hampstead, NC headed to the rendezvous point at Front Royal, VA.

Pic 1- Overlook on Skyline Drive VA.

Pic 2- View from my balcony at Peaks of Otter lodge

Pic 3- Richard, Lenny, Myself, and Ray getting ready to chow on the famous Peaks buffet

Pic 4- Overlook on Blue Ridge Parkway VA.

Pics 5- A overlook above an apple orchard on the BRP. between Grand Father Mtn. and Asheville, NC

Pics 6- Morning sunrise from my balcony at Pisgah Inn on the BRP just south of Asheville, NC

Pics 7,8,9&10- highest point on the BRP.

After this we continued on to Cherokee NC and completed the Skyline Drive/BRP trip. From Cherokee we went separate ways and headed home. Total miles for me -1,554.

If you have never been on the BRP add it to your bucket list. There are so many amazing long range views it boggles the mind, but amazingly some of my favorite parts were not long range views but rugged sections between ridges and valleys. I thoroughly enjoy riding with a group but I also recommend riding it alone sometime so you can stop where and whenever you want. Some of my favorite views were not even at an overlook and I would have just pulled off the side of the road and gawked for hours. The southern part between Asheville and Cherokee is so outstanding it is worth waiting for a clear day for your ride.

One day in the future we're going to find a reason to ride the whole thing. More photos please if you have them.

    Default Skyline Drive

WAY back when, in the BSA and Panhead days, we used to ride the drive about every other weekend. Two to five bikes would leave from Manassas and usually split the drive . Either went from Front Royal to Rt. 33 , or the other half to Waynesboro. Either direction to change it up. Sometimes, the whole thing. Made a great day ride. Sure miss my riding brothers, especially Jim, the former owner of my trike.

Hey Gary, I wish I had more pics to share but since we have all been on the parkway numerous times we didn't do much stopping. The link below however has incredible photos from various people and will definitely get you making plans. View the Editors pick gallery, just incredible!!

WOW!!! Great photo's. I understand fall is the best time to ride the route? Spring might be awesome also.

I have only been on the Parkway in July. I'm sure the fall is the most picturesque but the traffic could be heavier. We only got behind 1 motor home during the entire 560ish miles. It felt like we owned the road.

I just got back riding that area last month (first time there) I also finely rode the "tail of the dragon" i was excited, had a great time..[lucky none of the parts hanging on the "Tree of Shame" were mine] ..Yep totally beautiful roads to ride there... I felt like they were all made for me...Miles and miles of (s)miles riding w/o any vehicles slowing me down................Loved it!

Default Leaving for the brp and skyline hwy

As a local who lives in the mountains (pigeon forge) i am looking forward to riding the brp end to end. A group of 14 bikes are leaving sept 1st for front royal va. And then returning to cherrokee nc on the 4th of sept just in time for the maggie valley trike rally.

Us neither ..... live less than 20 minutes to BRP at two points of entry, have ridden it all several times, never boring .... always a blessing, always different it seems, sure pays to watch the "Other guy" coming at you, is he / he looking at the roadway or off across a valley?

Great photos thanks for sharing them.

I have to say. I've been on the BRP and frankly it scared the hell out of me! There was something about being high on a road with seemingly 100 mile views and a big drop off just a few feet away. I tensed up and had to go really slow. Couldn't wait for it to be over. LOL! Hate to admit it but that was the case. I had no clue I'd be like that. Now get this. I'm a pilot!! I've had several airplanes (Cessna's) and have absolutely no issue flying an airplane. Crazy huh?
