Just put a new starter motor on my 1600 Beetle engined trike. What I thought was a faulty motor turned out to be a dirty connection on the solenoid feed wire from the starter switch. I decided to fit a high torque motor for an automatic on, as I will be putting a 1776 motor in later this year and I wanted something with a bit of oomph. The difference between a manual and automatic motor is that the latter doesn't have a spigot protruding out it. This means that the spigot bush doesn't have to be changed. Well pleased with the result, only a slight problem was encountered with the wiring connections being in a different position. A bit awkward getting the wires in place but apart from that straight swap.
