Buzzard, U are right and I think a lot of times that is the case a lot of Visitors. It would be nice if they would chime in and let us know what they are thinking or looking for. Maybe one of us might be able to answer a question or lead them in the right direction.

I have to admit that I am guilty of being a "visitor" at times. I surf the site on my phone a few times a week when I am at break at work or away from the home computer. I have an older smart phone with a normal phone numeric keyboard, not one of those qwerty jobs. It is a major pain to log in and type on the phone, and I am slow. With the limited time and just wanting to read the topics, I end up as a visitor. If a topic is interesting or I have something constructive to contribute I'll post as a member when I get home.

Question Independent suspension versus single axle

I have ordered a 1800 Honda with a champion trike. I really struggled with the independent suspension vs. the single axle battle. Can you guys give me your opinion as to the pros and cons and which is best?

The definitive answer is that both are best.

thanks for the compliment, buzzard. this trike means the world to me. it's the same bike that i had my accident on. been modified for my use. left hand throttle, electric shifter, foot clutch, kawa hand controls (turn signals), linked brakes on the right foot, 7 degree raked trees, etc. the rear end and swing arm were chosen and everything else was chosen based on how they fit the rear end. thing handles like a dream, too.

just finished a 2500 mile trip to georgia and back.
yeah, the texas hill country has some really nice roads. one of the best kept secrets in texas!

Thanks for the welcome! I will pick up a new GL1800 triked with a champion this Sunday and it feels like Christmas. However; I haven't owned a bike in about 30 years. Call it "an investment for retirement", "Pappy's toy" or whatever. I am a bit nervous that I've made the right choices after being out of biking so long. I've really lost the communication buzz words. After I've purchased my bike, a friend asked me did I have it raked. My response was "whats that". So you can see my situation. Is raking good, bad or are you indifferent?

ebooth- Welcome buddy.

I know your deal is done, but Im gonna throw an opinion your way anyhow, since this question comes up a lot. Im sure others will be reading this with the same questions in mind.

The answer to your question is all of the top five or six trike manufacturers all build excellent machines. I have built or worked on every major brand (not personally built every one, but through my shop and I am in on the process) and there are things unique to each that I like, but thats a very generic answer, so I`ll go a step further and give you my personal choices and why I like them. Call me old school, but I lean more to the straight automotive rear ends vs the independents, partly due to the simplicity, reliability and larger trunk space, but primarily the lower cost to both buy it and to maintain it. Hey...they look and ride great, are very well engineered and cost $5-$10k less so why not?? Now if the independent-rear guys ever got really competitive in their pricing, it might be a little tougher call.

I have owned newer CSC and Trike Shop machines (Just sold an`06 Roadsmith GL-1800) and both of those ride great...loved them, but I also like the ride of a properly set up Champion or Motor Trike machine too. Im a dealer/builder for those, so maybe Im a bit prejudiced, but I get to drive a lot of different trikes so Ive got a decent amount of experience.

Lastly, find a dealer you like, trust and can deal with on a trike that suits you in terms of style, color, price, financing, etc. The dealers with a few years experience under their belt have probably been through the trials and tribulations of trike building (I know we have) and may be a little better prepared to build and maintain your trike to a higher standard...Which is what you should expect when shelling out $30-$40K. Believe me, there are a LOT of very minute but important factors that add up to make a good trike build.

If there isnt an experienced dealer close by that you click with then dont be afraid to go out of town or out of state even. It may be well be worth the trip. We get buyers from all over the USA and have never had a problem that wasn't easily resolved at their location. If the trike is built properly, you should have no real issues and get many miles of trouble free riding.

Thats my 2 cents....Hope that helps and good luck with your new Champion Trike!

If your new trike does not have a rake/steering kit installed you might try it out for a few trips to see what it does to your shoulders after a long ride.
If, on the other hand, you want to enjoy the ride, take a trip to Alabama and let Zook put the steering kit on for you.
