    Default C-Cab Design Question

    I have always like the C-Cab design. There are some concerns like the "parachute" effect going down the highway but some folks have solved that by placing a large window in the back to get good airflow.

    There are several fiberglass C-Cabs on the market but hey seem to be designed for cars not trikes. I was thinking of making one from scratch, and thought of using wood.

    I have seen several wood bodied trikes but wondered about the issue of the body being so close to an air cooled engine (the heat).

    Does anyone have experience with using a wood body? Are there steps you can take to maybe coat the lower part of the body closest to the engine to make it flame resistant?

    I have no experience with wooden bodys....but you can get foil backed insulation for underhood/firewall/floorpan etc. I would consider good ducting and airflow to the engine, when driving. so as to minimize heat soak when stopped. the exhaust pipes would need the most attention, so select exhaust with your body work in mind.......always liked the looks of a C-cab, and a roof overhead with a sunvisor would be nice. I keep thinking about a vinyl top of some kind for my trike....you got me thinkin again lol................welcome to trike talk......you came to the right place! Larry

    A few a years ago I met a guy at a local hardware store.

    He had a C-Cab VW trike.

    We talked a bit.

    He said the C design did catch the wind a lot. He said he was going to remove the glass windows to see if that helped.

    He also had a idea of taking the hard top off and making it a rag top/convertible with back window

    I would think that would make the parachute affect even worse but who knows

    Never seen the guy after that so I do not know how it turned out

    that c-cab would be super cool.....have thought of using fiberglass legend stock car bodies also.

    I have a 37 Dodge sedan body, bad condition, but have considered cutting the 2 little back windows and part of the roof to make a top for my trike. the hump back trunk could cover the engine.

    just another random thought, probably won't happen.
