    Default LED display

    On my weekend 1000 mile ride, the display on three separate occasions went blank. Not really blank, but, more like white/grey with random vertical lines. Pushing the display button "changes" the display, but, it is still the white/grey with different fertile lines.

    When this happened, it was on a stretch of pretty rough road. Lots of bumps and pot holes. In the middle of this stretch, I needed gas and pulled into a station. The display was out, so, I turned the ignition off and back on. The display returned and I was able to get the odometer reading.

    Soon after being on the road again it went out for awhile and came back two more times. When I got clear of the bad road, the display came back to normal and stayed that way, all the way home about 350 miles.

    I'm guessing maybe a loose connection. Also of note, when I bought the trike, the display had a couple of "sun burnt spots". See pic. It could be the screen is going out, although, why would it come back and stay back for 350 miles?

    Anyone seen this issue before? Don't really want to tear ito it until I have a little guidance. A new display is $800, so I surely don't want to buy a new one to find that's not the issue.

    It's possible one of the connectors on the back side of the "Combination Meter" has popped lose. Look in your service manual (Lights/Meters/Switches section) for how to access the back side. It's not difficult but does take some time. I hope that is what it is. You need that $800 for Kerrville gas money...

    Cant help on the 1800 but my old 1500 did that and I took the dash apart and couldn't find anything obvious but I wiggled some wires and it hasn't done it since, over a year ago. (Knock on wood) but the 1500 are bad for the screen failure.

    If it ends up being the screen, it is possible to just replace the screen and would cost around $150 give or take. It's actually plug and play but hardest thing is pulling the unit to get to the display...

    New info, I did just awhile ago do the air cleaner, I'm now wondering if the two plugs I took apart rear the key to get the dash off, might not have gotten "clicked" when 'i put it back together.

    If one of those was the ECM maybe, but I don't think so. The Combination Meter is a display unit so only receives inputs. I believe you first two suspects are the most likely. Lots of plastic to remove just to check connectors and no guarantee you'll find a thing wrong.

    Make sure the connection under the meter cover and in front of the ign. switch is securely plugged in. Instead of learning how to correctly separate the connector, some will break or file off the parts to that connecter that make it snap together. For a positive fit, you should hear it snap together. As for the LED screen, the ones I have seen fail have groups of pixels failing in horizontal patterns. Yours are more like blotches. Unfortunately, I don't know if there is difference.

    Here is a link for an aftermarket screen. If you order one, I've heard they take a few weeks to get here. Supposedly once your screen is removed it will say Sharp LQ065T9BR55U.

    Honda does not sell the screens but an entire assembly for many hundreds more. For reference be sure to take a picture of your current screen so that you can correctly adjust the horizontal/vertical adjustments on the back of the new LED screen to match your picture.

    Thanks for the replies ... very helpful.

    I think since I haven't seen the issue for 350 miles, I might put my head in the sand and ignore it. Don't think if will ever leave me stranded if it fails and I have two GPS units on y trike, built in and my Roadtech Garmin 550. The Garmin has updated maps and I know how to program trips in it and get tracks out of it. The gas gage works well enough to prevent me from running out and I carry 2 gals in a rotopax tank in the trunk, so I think until it fails permanently, I'll do my Ostridge (-5sp) impersonation.

    I will miss the clock, but the Garmin can be programed to display that. And i do have an iWatch ... LOL
