Security system install :(

Good afternoon everyone.

Ok a little story 1st so you know why I'm asking this question.

Here in AZ it gets HOTTER then Devil playing Blue grass music in the horse barn.

But 1 day we got up and saw the weather for the 1st pat of the morning was only going to be in the low 80's at 7 am. So off I went and took a ride about 40 mins away and stopped at a gas station to get a COLD drink. But thought better of it and never turned the Bike off.

Thank God I didn't do that till I got home. Once Home I tried to go out and park it in the garage and its wouldn't come on let alone start .

Put the battery tender on it and thought that would help. NOPE.

So I went and got my other key fob.....NOPE nothing still so wtf!!

Luckly my wife had a spare watch battery and i changed it and wala it came on as I walked back into the garage. Both of them were dead.

So I was reading the other day something in my manual and saw the Security system page.

OK so why not do that and not have to worry about it. right??

I get my manual out and 4 times I go thu the instructions and nothing happens.

Back up plan get wife out here to see if I/m missing something.

She does it 3 times and looks at me and says I don't understand why its not working either.

So 1 more time WE go thru it again ( i even stood on 1 leg lol) and still nothing. ???

Yeah I know take it to the dealer. NO Thank you.

So I calls a friend of mine and tell him about it. He starts laughing at me. Then he says I didn't even mess with that. I just bought a spare battery and keep it in the tour pac.

So is there and easier way to do this.

So far I really like this bike. Now I had 8 of these Harley's. NONE of them ever gave me any problems. EVER.

This 14 is just to much B/S on it. I swear some times I'd like to sell it and go back to a regular old street Glide.

I won't even try to figure out the code......

I always keep a two pack of battery's in the trunk....And never put the FOB in the same pocket or next to another remote device they will parasite each other..

It is a good idea to get a code in there and of course remember or better write down what it is. I have done it - set it up and used it and it really wasn't that bad. Why do it? Well it could save you a tow. Couple examples: friend rode to the dealer where we were meeting for a HOG chapter ride. Bike would not start because he did not have the fob. He kept it in the garage close enough that the bike started when he left home but once gone no joy. And just last week the dealer called me to see if I knew the code on the 2012 CVO Ultra I traded in over a year ago. Seems the new owner had his wife keep the fob in her purse. They were out to dinner many miles from home and someone stole her purse. Had to tow the bike home. Next time you're at the dealer get him to set a code for you. Never know when it'll come in handy.

I agree. I have used the code several times just to keep from having to go in the house to get a fob. I keep those well away from the trike to keep grandkids from accidentally starting it. Not sure why you are having trouble entering the code though, unless the dealer had changed it from stock and didn't tell you.

I managed to get a code on mine OK. The only tip I can give you is that you have to be quick. If you spend too much time, it times out on you.

The code info is in the back of the owner's manual .... punch out plastic credit card size for wallet. I copied mine and made one out of card stock for my wallet.

FOB batteries require yearly changing .... and the battery replaced with correct polarity!!

YES .... other devices in close proximity to the fob can affect it ..... as can other security systems in the area of your cycle.

My 2014 has the additional alarm / siren installed. I also carry the pager for the alarm with me .... and use it when needed.

Most all bikes are shipped with a plain number code

If The dealer or you did not change it it is all number 1s

I changed the code on mine, Yet when i left the Trike for service without the POD,[Forgot to leave it] They still started it and after servicing test rode it for a mile or two...

Changed the factory 11111 code to a secrete code only I know. Well, if I can remember it. Maybe it was my wife's birthday or anniversary? Really it's not that hard to reset. Just goolge the instructions.

If you try to start the bike, or move it, without the fob, it activates the security system. The system runs in cycles, flashes for a few seconds, no flash for a minute, back to flashing. You likely didn't see the flashing in the bright sun. You need to enter the code BETWEEN CYCLES of the flashing alarm. Set the code to something you can remember-the first five numbers of your SSN, an old phone number, etc. I have an old phone number I can't forget I use. I also buy the batteries a dozen at a whack from Amazon, put a couple in the trunk taped against the wall under the carpeting, and a couple more in the freezer. I bought my bike in late August of '15, so Sep 1 is my battery change date. I have used the password several times, once I realized keep a fob in the garage enabled anyone who pried my door open to take my bike.
