    OK so educate me please. I thought drive belts were a 'wear' item and not covered by factory warranty or ESP. I know some folks who had to pay for drive belt replacement. Maybe they were out of warranty and no ESP. It was a while back but I recall that the bike was fairly new.

    They are wear items, But sometimes with low mileage on a new bike and with a dealer thats willing to help you with Harley, They will under some circumstances make exceptions...

    Now with a 3 year old bike and 30k, No..

    This bike had 2400 miles on it,wouldn't consider this an item that should be replaced at such low mileage.Considering HD recommends belt replacement at the 50,000 mile service.

    Inspection and adjustment or replacement?

    Ok i looked in mine and yes there is no mention of it.That was posted on another site.I am going to find out if this is something the dealer recommends.Looking for more$$$.

    Default my 2 cents

    The absence of any foreign object getting between the belt and pulley would indicate a faulty belt of faulty adjustment.

    When installing the lift kit it MAY be necessary to re-adjust the drive belt.

    Since a lift kit changes the swingarm angle and this would allow the belt to become loose, just as weight of rider and passenger will tighten the belt.

    When a loose belt slips, there go the teeth.

    It usually happens between shifting gears when you unload and load the belt rapidly on downshift.

    I would like to hear more about why/how the belt lost it's teeth...it certainly was not from the lift kit. The belt was not adjusted right, or there was some road debris that got caught in it. If it was road debris, the riders insurance should cover the cost of repair. A photo of the belt would be nice. (I guess it could be from a defective belt, but those are EXTREMELY rare)

    That is what I though. H-D does make 'customer satisfaction' adjustments from time to time when conditions warrant it even if not technically a warranty item. However, I seriously doubt that any ESP contract would cover a drive belt for any reason. Those guys fight tooth and nail to not cover anything. And you do not have the Federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act to give any protection with and ESP. An ESP is not a warranty - it is a service contract.

    WoW !!!! 10.2hrs. Last time I replaced one it took me a little over 3 hours. Had one replaced on the road at Horney Toad in Temple, Texas a couple 4 yrs ago and was a little under $700.00. And that was installing a HD heavy duty Kevlar belt used on sidecar rigs vs the OEM style belt.

    Man I'm in the wrong business.

    I was at the HD dealership the other day. One of the parts sales guys was talking to the dealership owner about a getting and installing "Legend" lift kits. I looked up Legend lift kit. Not impressed at all. Nowhere in thier add did they mention Comfort. Just lifting and easier steering. Way more money. I'm going to approach the dealership and see if they would install DK Convertible Comfort lift. I need the lift because I have a crappy driveway. I need Comfort because I have a crappy back. If I had J&S Jack, I would install it myself. Jerry

    Levels out the Trike. HD Trikes have the rear drooping a bit. Leveling it out not only looks better, it give more clearance for the tail-pipes not to drag going in a driveway.

    Yeah, the ESP is actually regulated by State Insurance Commissioners, since it is considered insurance.

    I have had really good experience with the ESP. Never had to fight them, never had a claim denied, and I've used them a lot. Every ESP I've had has more than paid for itself. That said, I do not do more than a Stage I on my engines...more than a Stage I is where they can start getting finicky on what they cover.

    Yes, the Legend lift kit is a copy of DK's Original Lift Kit. As far as I know only one (un-named) company has quasi copied our Convertible Comfort Lift™ Kit so far.

    We have well over 100 HD Dealerships install our Comfort Lift™ Kit on brand new Trikes...I doubt any of them would deny a claim. Those that are not familiar with the Comfort Lift™ will not even know, 99% of the time, that there is a Lift installed, since it looks so much like the OEM bracket.

    I would like to hear more about why/how the belt lost it's teeth...it certainly was not from the lift kit. The belt was not adjusted right, or there was some road debris that got caught in it. If it was road debris, the riders insurance should cover the cost of repair. A photo of the belt would be nice. (I guess it could be from a defective belt, but those are EXTREMELY rare)

    Knowing the dealership he is dealing with,it doesn't surprise me that they would not install it under warranty.As far as faulty install its three bolts,cant see how it can be installed wrong.

    Yeah, it is pretty hard to mess up, but it is possible if one does not follow the instructions.

    We add new Dealerships, almost everyday, that are buying and installing the Comfort Lift™. Unfortunately at least a couple of times a month we spend an exorbitant amount of time on the phone with a dealership saying the same thing 50 different ways..."Please read the instructions or watch the install video". Some "Techs" at dealerships seem to think they know everything, and therefore do not need to read the instructions.

    INSTRUCTIONS.....Naa, Who's got time to read them' Besides i only use them to clean the window's on my truck....Same with receipts...

    Kevin. I received the e-mail sent by DK. You gave some dealerships that install the trike lifts. Does that mean that they actually sell and have in stock the lift kits? or should I purchase the lift directly from DK? Thanks Jerry
