    Default Mouse in the trunk

I live in a pretty rural area and mice have always been a problem. But last week I opened the trunk on my 2008 GW1800 w/ MotorTrike and found a bunch of bird seed and nesting stuff. Cleaned it out, washed it and looked for a way it got in. Couldn't find a hole. Set a trap in the trunk and have caught three mice so far. At this time of year the little buggers get into the garage, but so far not in the house. Lived here 36 years.
So now I have traps set up all over and the poison in all the corners of the garage. Also put in a couple of those electronic devices to make it uncomfortable for them. Any other hints? Thanks. :machinegun:

tatco, if I had found a mouse nest in my trunk, I would also be on the warpath!

That said, your story started my morning with the biggest grin! I'm picturing you in camouflage with night vision goggles and a mini sniper rifle laying in wait for the mini enemy ...........

Put a cat in your trunk (don't forget to put a kitty litter box in with it.

Didn't I read somewhere on here that a box of mothballs placed underneath the bike would ward off mice and other critters??

Thanks folks I'll add the mothballs to the list. Tonight I'm going to put an extension cord light into the trunk and see if I can pinpoint the point of entry of these little bast#%$^.

I have tried the Moth Balls and the fabric dryer sheets and honestly never had much luck with either of them. Others I have talked with have had good success with them. This winter my daughter has some stuff stored in one of those rental garage's we heard that Peppermint oil will make them stay away. Its expensive but she bought a bottle of it and soaked cotton balls with it and placed them around the furniture she has stored. Its funny I looked t how the garage was constructed and it looks very good then you look at the cheap roll up doors and shake your head.

Cayenne pepper is effective. Simply sprinkle around your vehicle....

I think a cat in the garage would resolve the issue.

My friend purchased a GW Trike and to make a long story short when he had it seviced the mech. found nuts, dog food, etc., in, around, his air cleaner. It had been stored in the seller's garage for a while. Thoses pests will find some funny places to store up their winter food suppy.....:beerchug:

We have racoons...yeah, I know-I know,"In LA?It's a woodsy area, what can I say. Racoons love meece So no meece & no squirrels. But had to double-mesh-cap the A/C vents to keep out the racoons. They're onrey agressive critters. Keep tearing away at the mesh-caps. One of these days, I just might be cleaning the .38 in the garage &:machinegun:

As many poor kitties at the animal shelters that need homes, a few in the garage would work wonders!

Also stuff something in your muffler. the little buggers go in there too. They also like wiring harnesses . dryer sheets mothballs lifeboy soap or park the bike on the center stand in a shallow pan of water. Keep pan full. Proven fact mice can't swim (sinking ship theory )

The latest in the ongoing saga. I have now caught 18 mice and the Lord only knows how many have secumbed to the poison. I know of two for sure. They found there way into the fresh air intake on my wifes Hummer. Terrible smell. Called the dealer to get an estimate on removing the mice from what I thought was the heating/cooling system. They said about $700 give or take a couple of hundred. Went at it myself. Found out that the critters can only get into the outside air intake. The end of which is screened off from the fan. Had to take off a lot of plastic to get at the area and in the end had to drill a hole to extract the dead mice and about a pound of nesting material. Lots of traps now set around cars, trucks, trike. Dryer sheets and soon mothballs and Peppermint oil. Also learned that caulking mixed with steelwool will help with the holes into the garage. Now were did I put that pepper? And a thurough cleaning of the garage!

We have two cats that sleep in the garage. Every now and then I have a dead mouse, A present from the cats, at the back door in the morning, but better that than a messed up car or trike.
    CATS WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

Over the years some of the toughest jobs weve ever had to trouble shoot and repair were GL1200-1500-1800 electrical problems due to mice nesting in and chewing on wiring harnesses. Keep`em away from your bikes or you can have some very costly problems.

One thing to keep in mind when dealing with mice & other rodents -- especially if you live in the regions where deer mice are found is Hantavirus. It's transmitted from mouse feces, urine & saliva. When cleaning up after the little buggers, you'll cause particles from these wastes to become airborn & possibly be inhaled. Hantavirus is deadly! When cleaning up, saturate the area with bleach, allow to dry then clean up. Bleach, sunlight, & household disenfectants like Lysol are effective in rendering the virus inert. Recently, it's been found that deer mice aren't the only carriers here in the US. Ths is a world wide problem, so be careful. Here's a link to CDC on the subject.
