    Default MPG troubles

2016 Triglide, street cannons and de-catted stock header, Poweer Vision tuner with recommended tune.

Now the trouble, with a recent trip I reset the PV trip info just to check milage. Filled up and rode till the gas warning light came on at 23 miles left. Next exit the milage was at 14 miles remaining.

complete fill was only 4.8 gallons ( shaking when full to get extra quart) and computed at 32.3MPG hiway at 70/75! Total milage was 155. But the PV stated milage at 35.7MPG and same distance, 155 miles! Power Vision was computing at 4.3 gallons used.

I know the gas warning is wrong since I could only get 4.8 gallons in tank, but why the half gallon and 10% milage difference with the Power Vision!

haven't contacted FuelMoto yet to get their suggestions!

My Power Vision on my Freewheeler is totally inaccurate on mpg. It never matches my manual calculations; usually off by more than 10%.

There is a setting in the PV that is used to compute speed (and miles traveled) based on the RPM and gear you are in.

It sounds like both of yours are set wrong.

It can be found in your WinPV, under Gear/Speedometer Calibration

I believe the correct value is 2452 for the Trikes and 2153 for the two wheel bikes

btw, Sunman, I just looked at the tune we sent you. There was a mistake in it...for whatever reason (and I apologize) it was mis-typed and is at 2462...it should be at 2452.

Kevin, my speedometer was set at 2462 also. I reset it to 2452 and saved tune to PV. Maybe that will make the readings more consistant.

Also a PV question. I compared several of the different tune programs for my 16 Triglide and all of the fuel tables were identical. With stock intake or high flow, stock mufflers or slip-ons, and other brands of headers all the fuel tables look the same!

Is this just the way the tuner works, or did my computer copy the fuel tables wrong?

Got a reply from Dynojet. Seems the fuel tables will be the same for all mods. Best fuel/air is just that “ best “! What changes is the VE tables in order for different combinations to get the “best” made xture value!

Makes a lot more sense on how the PV works on the bikes!

    Nick,

Sorry, just saw your posts. If you send me your email addy, I will email you a tune that has hundreds of hours of work in it. It is the best tune for the Twin Cam ('14-'16) in a Tri-Glide I have used. Good power and MPG.

I know you can't help here but I sure wish I could get that to work on my PVCX for Indian. Makes no difference what number(s) I put in there. There is simply no effect. I had hopes a change would resolve a tire size difference which made the speedometer correct but the odometer off which affected the mpg calculates. Dynojet is still trying to crack that nut but Polaris buried that change factor deep somewhere that so far they haven't been able to reach. It's frustrating because they are close. This PVCX is a very powerful tool and in the Indian case, still evolving.

Wish I could...but we have no experience with Indians. Dynojet will probably eventually get it...like you said, sometimes it is buried deep.

Kevin, setting the Speed sensor to 2452 cured the MPG error between the bike and PV. They both show within a needle width the same speed and milage is within .2 MPG when filling up.

I will send you a Email address for the map you have fine tuned for the trike, and thanks in advance!

(P.S. your lift kit, tank lift, remote oil, and my homemade air wings have made a significant temp change in the ride)

I was poking around in my tune today (in the WinPV software) and saw there is a MPG Adjustment tab under the fuel tab. Mine is set at 1989. I don't ever recall messing with it, but you might want to check and see what yours is set at.

That is great news on the MPG, and really good to hear that you have got your temps down.

I am emailing you the tune, straight off my TG in a few minutes.

OK, so I just checked mine, and it is set for 2462, but it says Pulses per Km. I went to the settings, and the units were set to metric. I changed it to imperial, and saved, then restarted Win PV. it still says 2462 pulses per Km. Do I just change it to 2452, save and reflash the bike? And just what difference will it make? I have always suspected that the miles piled on a little fast!

Well, I have not reflashed the bike yet, but according to my math, the difference between 2462 and 2452 is about 0.25 mph at 60 mph. If 2462 is 60, 2452 would indicate 59.25.

I've never done the math that way. Just learned that it needs to be set at 2452 for the speedo/odo to read accurately. That is with stock tires on the Trikes with the lower gearing... '11?? and up.

My 2016 was showing the same speed, but the MPG was about 3 MPG different. I was filling the tank to the same level, as close as I could, and doing the math for MPG. My bike mileage calculation was 31.5! But the PV was showing 34.7MPG.

I tried several tanks to accurately fill and ck, but the PV was allways off.

By changing the PV to 2452 vs 2462, the speedo is still close, but the mileage calculation is now within .2MPG. I can cruise at 75 for a full tank, or hot rod from light to light intown and the MPG on the PV will match my calculation at fillup.

Now my next step is to do a couple autotune short trips and let the PV do its thing to get everything in the best possible

enviroment for performance and MPG. But I can now use the PV data instead of dragging out the iphone and trying to find the calculator to check MPG at every fillup.

I will keep this post up to date, and Kevin sent me his tune which I will also use in my tuning endevors.

Good to hear that calculations are matching now.

Looking forward to hearing how you like the new tune.
