Knee Surgery

Have to park the Shadow Trike for a week or so while I recover from knee surgery. Left knee had been paining me so much the last couple of months that I was taking high-powered painkillers to sleep at night. It hurt if I driving the car, trike, paddling a kayak or sitting at the computer.

The surgeon and I discussed my options (1) 'Scope, (2) Kneecap replacement, (3) total knee replacement. Since the MRI didn't reveal anything to warrant chancing Options 2 of 3, the knee was 'scoped yesterday morning. The before and after photos are as different as a Honda Trike and a Harley Trike.

I can already feel the difference in the pressure and go back tomorrow to get the wrapping off. I'll just follow Doc Blair's ordes and should be back on the trike by the end of next week.

Nana, the doctor was in the wrong part of the body to be looking for things that were loose and rattling around.

This was my third surgery on the same knee. Also had it done in '86 and '00. Each procedure started out with "Well, we may have to replace the knee". Fortunately for me each time the actual remedy was to scrape and remove the damaged cartilidge and file or smooth out rough edges of the bones.

Several doctors have told me I was no longer 24 and to slow down and act my age. But will someone tell this 64 YO kid who's an active camper, kayaker, volunteer firefighter, and triker how to slow down without growing old quickly? These are the things that keep me young now that I quit playing competitive softball 15 years ago.

Y'all have a wonderful week of riding. 'Twas beautiful here in coastal NC today and just sit here looking across the farm fields wishing I was out riding instead of sitting here with my leg evelated and a bowl of ice cream in my lap.

Calman, I respectfully decline to get into a discussion with anyone about what might be rattling around loosely in your head..... I'll leave that to your family members! :innocent:

I asked that because my brother actually had a chip from his knee cap loose and causing irritation. They went in with the scope, pulled out the offending bit, and he was good as new.

Calman: Dont let 'em ever talk you into slowing' down. My orthopod is suggesting a '2-fer' surgery: Shoulder or knee (pick-one) & a frontal lobotomy. I think I'll pass on the frontal....at least for now! You only got one Life. So lead life to the fullest!!
