Trike Saddlebags 84031-11

I plan on purchasing the HD 84031-11 for my Trike, but need some info re/fitment. I have read the horror threads of the dealer installs of these bags, so have decided to do the install myself. i have downloaded the HD Instructions which state the template marked Left will be used on the left side - nothing about a template for the right side - just says repeat steps on the opposite side. Is there a right side template? Thanks in advance for any help with this install.

If as you said, You read the horror stories , Then all i can say is.....Measure 4 times double check then drill......

I installed a set on my friends trike and if memory serves me correctly there were two templates,as said above,double,triple check your template placement and start with small drills first.And make sure to use masking tape in the area that the holes are to be drilled.I know I was nervous about it at first but after the first one it was a breeze.

There are a couple threads on this already. Do a search. I had the dealer do my first one on a 2012 TG = turned out terrible. There was a step missing so the bags looked crooked. Dealer did make it right after a long bitching campaign.

Dealer did the install on my 2014 and did it correctly this time. I didn't have the time/location or wherewithal to do it myself so I let the dealer do it and let them take the blame/correction if done wrong.

Try a dry fit first before drilling.

Have you thought about using the seethroughbraz.com mounting kit? I installed this on my 2015 (no drilling required), when I traded in my trike for the 2017 I was able to reuse the saddlebags on the new trike.

I replied to this on the other thread. I will never trust tape to hold anything - period. I'm sure it's a great product, but I'm not going to trust it with my cameras. I've had too many issues with tape mountings failing due to heat over the years. I see no problem with drilling a few holes in the body - after all there are already plenty of holes in it now with no problems.

I did investigate the tape method but decided on the security the bolts provide - I am OK with the drilling of the mounting holes - just want to get them in the right spot. I am going to make a cardboard template of the body area where the bags go and then locate the HD template on my cardboard mockup before I drill the body.
