Many years ago I believed I had experienced as near to perfect ride as humanly possible and posted this account on the “Original GL1800” forum. This, I believe, may be the first published naming of FM335, FM336, and FM337 as “The Three Sister”. They had previously been called the 100 mile loop….

In the Texas Hill Country - south of Interstate 10 and West of Kerrville lie “Three Sisters” that will provide any rider much more pleasure than ever imagined possible. Weather this is your first time in the saddle (a true novice) or you are a seasoned veteran, the “Sister’s” generous curves, unexpected dips, captivating sweet aromas and awe inspiring beauty will fill your heart and you will be 100 percent in love.

Of course I am referring to three of the most loved and often ridden roads in the entire state of Texas. Ranch Roads 335, 336 and 337 (affectionately referred to as the “Three Sisters”) are arguably the best in the state. Connected in one fashion or another by Ranch Roads 187 and 1050 or state highways 16 and 39, the “Sisters” are truly a full day (maybe two) of pure pleasure.

Yesterday, myself and a friend departed San Angelo at 7:30 AM headed for what we knew would be a full day of riding and taking in all the beauty the fall season displays. Exactly nine hours – and 462 miles later we were back home feeling very satisfied and a bit worn out. I mean, we had one of those “man I’d love to do that again but don’t have the energy” looks.

Those of you that have ridden the “Sisters” know what I say – the rest of you need to come ride with me……

    November 25, 2017 Update:

I have been traveling from San Angelo to ride these fantastic roads for nearly 20 years now and have to say without any doubt that this trip, more precisely “TODAY”, was the most enjoyable riding I have experienced. I rode down yesterday to spend time with a very good FRIEND (you most likely will recognize him best by his Trike Talk screen name, GrandpaDave and his courageous bride Peggy. They are spending a few months planted in an RV park right on Hwy 16 (yes I feel sorry for them also.)

Yesterday we just jawed and caught up with things but this morning they joined me for a Cracker Barrel breakfast and we caught up even more.

After eating, riding was all we had in mind! A more perfect day I just can’t imagine. Temperatures were made for riding. There was no wind or rain and we were surprised that the roads were not very busy at all. The beautiful scenery here year around combined with generous fall color sprinklings was just the icing on the cake!!! The only thing missing was even more of our Trike Talk FRIENDS!!!

Peg, Dave, and I got back to their RV and just felt so fortunate. We were not near as exhausted as the October 2000 ride but then we did not travel near as far and for sure did not push that proverbial "envelope." None the less it sure felt good to set in the shade reminiscing and relishing today.

    Jerry,

Peg and I can't thank you enough for coming down to visit and ride with us the past couple of days. For me it was such a great feeling to get out riding again after over a year when I couldn't ride due to my cancer treatment. Peg and I still need to get the third of the three sister's ridden this season and we have three and a half months left to get that done along with a lot of other exploring in the area. If there is anyone else in the trike talk family that is planning to come to the Texas Hill Country riding over the next several months we're staying at the Medina High Point RV resort south of Kerrville on Hwy 16. We're in site #407 and would enjoy seeing you.

Been riding the three sisters on 2 and 3 wheels for many years and NEVER get tired of it. They are some of the best roads in Texas if not the best. Every year a couple of friends and I do a trip to the Hill Country the first week of November and ride the Three Sisters as part of the trip. Unfortunately this year one of the friends had a medical issue and we ended up cancelling the trip. Fortunately my wife and I had attended the Trike Talk gathering in Kerrville the first of October and we rode part of the Three Sisters.

Another great ride I like in the Hill Country is 377 from Junction down towards Rock Springs then jump on 41 over to 335 and ride it into Camp Wood. It is a great ride and from Camp Wood you can hit 336 and 337. Makes for a fantastic day of riding.

Glad to hear Dave is doing well. He's been awful quiet this trip.

Hope you can come back in Feb when we are there.

What are the dates you will be there? I'll get my winter maintenance done soon so I'll be sure to be free.

You are not going to believe how GREAT Dave is doing! Someone sure was looking out for him. In addition to Peg that is..

We will be there feb 15- mar 17. We are spending the first month riding near Phoenix, visiting a nephew and a cousin I haven't seen for 50 yrs.

Glad to hear Dave is doing good. He could not even ride last year. You can call or text 6164980954 to coordinate rides.

My wife Wendy and I rode the sisters when we were at the Trike Talk Kerrville Gathering. It was our third time on the sisters and was the best of the three.

With Port Aransas TX not being available due to hurricane damage we are looking at a week in late January in the Austin area followed by a week in McAllen, TX. Kerrville maybe a good place to end our trip.

    Hope everyone is doing well.

Enjoy going to new destinations. But it’s just as enjoyable to travel down “memory lane”. Going places you’ve been before with friends always makes it a great trip.

I agree with you, my wife and I have ridden all across the states but the rides that I've enjoyed the most were at the Trike Talk Gratherings.

You and Wendy could start in Tucson, AZ and help us explore SE AZ and Big Bend. It's a little warmer there in January than the Hill Country.

If you end up in Kerrvile let us know. We can show you some roads you haven't seen.

    Jan & John,

We may still end up in Port Aransas for February, it depends on the construction schedule and the insurance company, but we appreciate the offer.

We had planned on riding a little in the Hill Country, looks like it comes down to timing, hope we can get together.
