We have Progressive. We're both over 50 with spotless records. We'll pay $552/year for full coverage on my '17 trike and her '15 sporty. Expect higher rates if you are under 25 and/or have tickets/accidents.

Stan, It depends......How much insurance do you need, Where you live, where you park the trike at home at night, Do you have any tickets in the last 5 years, Even your credit rating sometimes factors in, How long have you been without an accident....ETC;ETC;.....

As the others have said, there are factors for insurance (location, age, record, etc.). For us, both over 50, Florida, Geico costs us $400/year for full coverage on the '17 TG.

I may shop before the next insurance comes up, may do it now, here is the cost for me:

    2016 harley triglide---$556.52

    2002 Road King ------$301.49

    1997 Softail Custom--$221.26

This is what I pay for and full coverage on all of them, 250 comp deductible, 250 collision deductible , 3,000 custom equipment on 2016 Triglide and Road King included, I pay a extra 7.22 for 4,000 on the softail.

This is the insurance I have plus I have the same insurance company for my truck, have had this insurance for over 50 years, the names have changed a few times and have only collected 2 times but not on a motorcycle, a car and a truck, I get a discount if you want to call it a discount since I have my truck also with them, I pay around $800 a year for my 2005 chevy truck, not cheap and my friends keep telling me to shop around, as you can see I pay quite a bit compared to some of you, my company is Nationwide

As some has said, depends on where you live, any accidents, speeding, etc etc, I live in a big town, but my agent said if I lived where she does in a small town, it wouldn't make any difference in price, maybe higher is what she said, not sure how true that is.

Shop around, quite a few insurance company's out there, some good and some not so good, I stay with what I have had for 50 years, they have treated me right but look at what I pay, I still may shop around, from what I have heard, you may get a good rate the first year and then they hit big time the second year, had that happen on the motorcycles before I picked up the 2016, and then the agent told me Nationwide was carrying motorcycle insurance now, they never did before, so I went with them to have everything with one company, didn't help much on price LOL

    All for now Trampas

Really hard to compare because as others have said insurance is very fact dependent - where you live, where trike, your age and driving record, even credit history oftentimes plays a part in rate determination. With that being said I've had quite a few - State Farm, Dairyland, Progressive - never had Geico, Nationwide or Allstate.

I have kept my bikes insured with Foremost since 2005. They gave me the absolute best rate and even though I've shopped them several times I was never able to find anything better. And I've had a couple claims over the years.

I know I am in a distinct minority but to save premium $$ I carry the very lowest medical coverage and I decline uninsured / underinsured motorist coverage. Reason for this is I'm retired, on Medicare so medical bills fortunately are not a big concern. And I don't need income replaced since I don't work except part of the year helping folks select their Medicare coverage.

Now I've had insurance agents even tell me that if I'm in a crash with a uninsured motorist who is at fault and I don't have uninsured motorist coverage then I have no coverage to get my bike / car repaired. NOT SO. Your very own collision coverage will pay regardless of who is at fault. NOW if you have to use it they will count it as a chargeable claim just like you were at fault even though it was the uninsured motorist who was at fault. But for me that's I chance I'm prepared to take and it has saved me $,$$$ over many, many years. JMHO.

Geico, I pay about 340 a year for my 2015. Your best bet is to go to an independent insurance agency. Also, many companies have discounts for multiple policies. I got a good rate in part because I have multiple cars and my house under the same umbrella.

As others have stated, insurance costs are subject to a lot of factors but I did a lot of shopping when I got my TriGlide and Progressive beat them all.

New 2013. First two yrs I had Progressive. Second yr they raised my premium, I paid. Third yr they raised my premium again, I shopped. I went with GEICO. Second yr they raised my premium stating it was due to my state's

record/history of bad drivers/claims. I paid. Third yr they raised my premium stating same reason. I shopped and went local. Local ALLSTATE agent came back with same coverage provided for only $265 per year. ALLSTATE saved me $300 and change. Nothing changed with me, trike, or policy. You have to be diligent and research. GEICO called me and asked why I had not renewed the policy. I simply stated to the caller/rep that ALLSTATE was less expensive for same coverage. Didn't burn any bridges. Just one simple fact, thanks for calling, and said goodbye. I'm not endorsing ALLSTATE or beating up Progressive and GEICO. This is just my experience.

H-D Progressive for me. I've been with them a long time (currently Emerald status) and they treat me right insuring 2 cycles.

I had Allstate so long ago that I bought/renewed it at Sears. Happy as a lark until, two months after renewing, my now-ex wife hit somebody and they made a claim. Then I got a letter with a check saying that they had decided not to renew my policy so they were not liable for the claim. This meant I would lose my drivers license and car registration! So I began calling - got clear up to the head of claims (call him Smith) and got the same song. So I called the state insurance commission. The guy there laughed at my story which I didn't find amusing, then apologized and explained that I was about the umpteen hundredth guy to call. Had I talked to "Smith". Yes. Well my name is 'Jones" - call him back and tell him he can't do that and he knows it. So I called Smith. His response was "Well then I guess we can't screw you" and told me to tear up the check.

Like I said, that was 40+ years ago but I haven't had Allstate since. YMMV

One other thing to think about is how well they pay. I know an injury lawyer and checked with him some years back. He told me Pemco pays good, I use them for home and auto. If you ask them for bike insurance, they refer you to Progressive. I won't buy Progressive because I don't like George Soros. I use Geico for the TriGlide, it's around $600/yr. Also use Gieco for motor home, and I use Foremost for the wife's Slingshot, because it was a little hard to find coverage for it. Around $600/yr for the Slingshot also.

When somebody tells me I need another toy, I say we have all the toys I can afford to insure, keep tabs on and keep fresh oil in.....

I'm with you on Progressive, Firewrench22. As a loyal American, I don't do Soros.

Often, the year they sign you is fairly inexpensive, but they raise the rates on the second or third year. My premium is due in August, so in June I'm hitting the independents so when I get the bill, I have quotes in hand. One of the local companies just mails it to me every June without my asking. I'm still smiling cause my last kid graduated college and got married off. She took a car with her, but the insurance payment too. She also took a Hi-Power, but she does have good taste.

As someone who has had to make a serious claim with an insurance company (6 figures), it is not always best to get the cheapest.

What I learned is that insurance companies go thru cycles in how well they pay out on big claims.

Most all of them pay well on smaller claims, but if you have a bigger claim, you don't want to have to fight with them to pay out what you paid your monthly or annual premium for.

The reason they go thru cycles is simple- paying out well builds their reputation, word of mouth business...they can then ride on that for years, while changing their internal policy to one of fighting against paying out big claims. This is a profitable strategy that most companies follow.

The best way to know who is paying out well is to talk to a motorcycle personal injury lawyer...they will know....that's what they do all day, everyday...negotiate settlements and/or court cases with insurance companies, they know which ones are easier to work with/which ones will fight every step of the way to Not pay.

Because of my past nightmare claim, I check every year to see who is paying out well, and factor that in, with premium costs, when deciding on insurance.

We are currently with Allstate, and have 4 bikes covered:

    '14 TG

    '12 Softail

    '09 Sportster

    '04 Sportster

Coverage includes all add-ons, custom paint, etc.

    100K and 500K underinsured.

    $1051 a year premium

Almost 50% of the premium is for uninsured/underinsured coverage.

The reason uninsured is important to me to twofold-

    1. I am still working, so loss of income is important

    2. Even though my health insurance will cover any medical expenses, and my 100k will cover my bike...in a bad accident there are costs that cannot be anticipated, or even a $ figure put on them...so it is nice to have some compensation to offset those.

There are so many drivers that have no insurance, and most that do have insurance have only the minimum.

The driver that hit me had the minimum, and it was eaten up in the first 24 hours after he hit me. Without the uninsured/underinsured coverage that I had, I would have been in horrible financial shape.

    Hey Stan

As most others here have stated, your driving record, the state you're in, coverage limits, and deductibleshe all affect the rate. We have Progressive through USAA for $464.00. The longer you're with Progressive the deductibles decrease. Mine are now zero. We ride a 2015 HD Ultra.

I have Farm Bureau and pay $409 a year for my 2017 Tri-Glide.

Turned in a claim last week to get my Drive belt replace due to a rock or stick getting caught in it and wearing a groove on the about 1/2 wide on the edge.

At first they were going to cover under collision which is a $500 deductible after I balked at that and explained to agent the amount of money I spend with them and could probably find something cheaper they came back today and told me that it was going to be covered under comprehensive with $100 deductible.

The estimate to replace from the dealer was $867.

    Checks in the mail.

I have 3 cars/trucks, 2 ATVs, house and Trike insured through then and have been with them for 20+ years.

Probably will stick with them as they have always treated me good with the few claims I have had.
