New England TRIKE TALK 2018

?

Not from area but really enjoy visiting

ive been out a couple times to the Ludlow Vermont area for a 4-5 state HOG rally decent rates ( not at ski lodges) lots of restaurants and many great rides

Just might be worth looking at

Hi Everyone, well I have been looking all over the Catskills for a more affordable solution for a rally there. One of our members, Seabiz, has been working independently to pick a place for her HOG group from Rhode Island. Last night Cathy shared her findings with me and we both ran into the same issues. Her rally is after Labor Day and you would think it would be easier and less costly to find a place but not.

A lot of these places up there are not large, many only have 5-10 rooms and there are no additional places nearby. Some are also way out with no other business around, including gas stations. In the end, Cathy ended up with just a couple possible hotels, two were just basic hotels with no other business near by and two in Windham, The Vienna where we stayed last year and the Thompson House which was the first hotel on Rt 296.

The Thompson House is her first choice as it has enough rooms, a meeting room for the group and a full breakfast and dinner everyday. The costs run from $97.00 to $132.00 PER PERSON PER DAY. This includes breakfast and dinner based on a 3 night stay and includes the room taxes and tips. Lunch would be on you. Other places in the Catskills offer similar arrangements and prices but The Thompson House has the advantage of being in a small town with services, gas, restaurants, pharmacy and liquor stores. On the low end, after subtracting meals, the room is $114.00/night for two.

I also looked at Vt again. It looks like the West Dover area is a lower cost option. The Grey Ghost Inn prices have gone up, the larger block of rooms are now $144.00, with taxes it's $158.00. It does include a breakfast but no dinners. The dinner there was $25.00 PP the last time, it may be up higher now, so the basic cost with one dinner for two is $524.00 plus buying dinners for two other nights. This actually more expensive overall compared to Thompson House.

I looked at Kitzof up the road from GG and they offer a better package, $398.00 for two people for 3 days, includes one dinner, breakfast every day, a meet and greet reception with cheese fruit and all taxes and service charges. I would need to check on handicap access for one of our members. Cathy (seabiz) told me that Kitzof is very nice and accommodating. The owners ride also.

So how about some feedback from the members and let me know if either one of these options are doable. If anyone has an alternate option by all means pass it along.

Vermont is very doable for me..I'll probably come solo, as wife doesn't ride too often... Kitzof Hotel, is very nice

Ronnie

I heard back from the Kitzof Inn and they have 8/9 - 8/12 and also 8/23 - 8-26 available with no bookings as of yet.....any suggestions, questions, etc.

I'm still going to look at Windham as well. It's not to bad to get there from anywhere....

Just trying to bump this post on top again, have you heard anything about the Vermont rally hotels this summer (2019) as of yet??

just trying to make plans, for a meet and greet...

Ronnie

All options sound good. I did miss not going to Dover 2 yrs ago though.

Any thoughts about Adirondack’s? Tupper Lake is a nice town (30 miles from Lake Placid). But you wouldn’t want to be there after July (FYI. I am thinking of week of 4th of July there maybe).

The Mrs and I both liked Windham. Since we didn't go on any of the road trips (trike problem) we spent most of our time in town, except for one afternoon in the pool. We enjoyed knocking around the shops and eateries. Coming from Maryland it's the shortest ride of the three NE gatherings we went to.

We also went to West Dover. It was ok but a longer drive for us. The weather was an issue a couple of days.

We like the pricing, the amenities, the available dates and the location of The Thompson hotel. That's our choice for the gathering.

Update for rally

Just wanted to update everyone on rally.....we are still looking around the Catskill area for a place. Next weekend John (Lucky) and myself will be meeting with two places, one I have been talking to for two weeks and is on Rt 23 heading toward Windham and is closer to Cairo where the bike show was. The other place I just found out about this weekend, someone from my camp up that way purchased a ski lodge last year and friends who were visiting this past weekend made contact with him and we were able to talk last night. It's not far up the road from the Vienna where we stayed last year and has a full service restaurant.

So we should have something to report after next weekend as far as when and where, but it sounds as though we can have any time/weekend as of now at the second place. It has about 38 rooms some set up as a hostel with several beds for singles, from what the owner told me, he charges by the room, not per person so several singles could share a room and the cost.

I like VT but in reality, the Catskills are more central to the core of this region as far as member locations go. Once you get out to the extremes it does limit who would go.

Thanks,

Doug and John

Lets start signing. Up for 2018 TTNE rally.

Ok looks like plans are in place. Going back to Catskills this year. We found a place and I am thrilled about it. It may sound like a lot of money at first but think about this. Last year we paid $140 a night. , This year it is $89 a person. So 2 people is ( yes $179. ). If you are alone and want your own room it is $120 a night. ( actually 24 cheaper than last year for singles. ) But. But this includes a real breakfast ( last year was cold cereal, coffee and Danish ) this year ... eggs , bacon , Sausage, pancakes , juice, coffee..all you can eat .. also include this year .... a 3 course dinner.

Appetizer & desert With 3 different choices each night . And includes Cocktail ( yea after dinner drink ) If you get there on Thursday and check in there is a free 1/2 hour open bar ( unlimited drinks ). There is a full bar for socializing ( drinks prices are approx $5 each ) there is music and dancing ever Fri and Sat .. Indoor and outdoor pool, exercise room , and 3 places to have our meetings and chats, ( indoor pool , outdoor pool / hot tub and fire pit ) 00ps that 4 . Lets start the ball rolling. We have until May 30 to get people signed up. It will be the weekend before Labor day ... Aug 24,25,26 .

Doug will fill in the rest. I don't know if I can post pictures.

Nope. Still can't.

PS Doug just informed me we have less time than I thought .. Only April 30

I am excited I hope you are too. Let's make this the best. ...

John,

I was asking for a drop dead date for June 1st but the owner would only do May 1st that we need to register by to guarantee a room.IMG_20180225_111919_716[1].jpgIMG_20180225_111934_295[1].jpgIMG_20180225_112007_293[1].jpgIMG_20180225_112024_501[1].jpgIMG_20180225_112040_552[1].jpgIMG_20180225_112055_225[1].jpgIMG_20180225_112300_477[1].jpg

Count me in, on this deal, not sure if going single or with wife, I have not discussed it with her yet...Once plans are made, and deal(s) are set in stone, I can send you a count of people coming with me....

Ronnie

Thanks

Burnerboy Thanks. How many could that possibly be ?

As for the other people. I hope we start hearing from you soon. .

There is a section on the NE rally page to put your name down.

Ronnie,

The dates are set in stone for the 23rd through the 26th, I just need to get a newsletter of sorts put together with the details. Definitely bring your wife, even if she doesn't want to ride while there, this place has plenty to do all day long.

The 2018 Trike Talk Rally information package has now been posted on the site. Please download the file and check out all the info and call the resort directly for making reservations. This package includes all breakfast and dinner meals where every day there will be a limited menu to choose from. If anyone has any concerns or restrictions for food, please let the manager know and they will work with you to provide a suitable choice. The rooms don't have any fridges but the resort will store any meds or special drinks in a cooler for you. If you have any other needs, don't be shy just ask the manager.

My next job is to get the link up for letting us know who is going, hopefully I might have that done tonight and if I do, I will place it in the same thread as the invitation is. Please keep all discussions to this thread unless we can get those posts as stickies.

sign up form and list of attendees

The sign up form and the list of attendees is now available on the other thread. You just have to click on each to access the form or list. When filling out the form I believe there is a selection to add another person so you don't have to back out of the form to add your passenger.

If anyone experiences any issue with the form please PM me or post a note to this thread.

Ok, I give up. A lot if information has been posted about the hotel...cost, menu, pics, even the name of the town it's in. However, and maybe I'm getting on in years, but I can't find where you've posted a name and contact number for the hotel. Thank you.

sign up

Hey Yogi, back out to the main forum and go to the thread marked NETT rally signup ASAP. There is a link for downloading the notice and sample menus, these are PDF files. The next post down are two links, the top one is the sign up sheet and the bottom one links you to an excel sheet showing who is coming. If you get confused I can call you later tonight. I won't be home until after 5 and we have to run back out for a while so it will most likely be after 8. PM me with your phone number if you can't get the info.

I'm trying to keep all conversations to this thread and keep the other thread clean and only post important info or changes.

Doug

FYI schedule at Acra Manor

FYI, the owners of Acra Manor are taking a few days off this weekend so if you call, leave a message with your name and number and mention the trike rally. They will be back all next week but after that they are taking a few weeks in Florida and will be back after the first of April.

Officially the resort is closed over the winter but they are there to do repairs and set up reservations so leave a message on the phone system or send an e-mail. Remember that after May 1st, the resort will open up the reservations to anyone. I am also going to post the rally info on another group later but I want to give TT members first choice.
