    Default head light

Has anyone had to replace their headlight with an aftermarket brand, if so which brand and how satisfied are you with it? The head light on our 2014 Triglide has moisture in it and becomes quite cloudy. The trike is put away for the winter so plenty of time to gather info. and make a decision before spring comes around. (not soon enough ). Thanks to all.

IMHO it'd be easier to find out how the moisture is getting in and fix it than to change the whole assembly and maybe not cure it anyway. I've owned 3 TGs and ride in Florida's liquid sunshine but have never has a light fog up. My '17 has a rubber gasket between the front cover ring and the rest of the assembly that precludes adjusting the aim without removing said ring. Is yours still intact? IIRC there is also a boot where the cable comes in. A tube of silicon glue might be handy too. Good luck on it.

    BTW, where do you live?

Hello Allen and welcome to TT, can't help with the headlight though.

    Welcome to Trike Talk

IMO, there have been a lot of problems in the last few years with HD headlights getting milky inside

my 07 Streetbob and my 15 Freewheeler both did

I guess here in FL it is a given

First off - Welcome.....Then....J.W. Speaker. They are the company that originally designed and manufactured the HD DayMaker. After a few years HD took over the making and further development of the headlight. JW Speaker has since gone on to make what is now a gen II headlight under the JW Speaker line. I've had them now on 3 bikes - All worked perfectly with what is in my opinion, a superior design and lights up the countryside. Just my opinion, but suggest you give them a good look. They are also considerably less expensive than the Daymakers.

Thanks, been coming to this forum before we purchased our Trike, there's a wealth of information and feedback here from individuals with the same interests.

We live in Long Sault Ontario Canada. I did remove the headlight and it's a sealed unit non-repairable, HD said it would have to be replaced $$$$. Thanks for the suggestion though.

    Welcome Allen,

I solved that same issue by running a silicone seal bead around the beasal and housing. As far as cleaning the inside, use a shotgun cleaning cotton brush, taped to a dowel, bend the brush at 45 degrees and spray just damp with windex, and start cleaning. It takes time and patience, however I ain’t got nothing else to do during the winter months, BTW a 6 pac also helps

I changed to the TruckLite Phase 6 on the headlight and the passing lights and love 'em on my '13 TriGlide. They are much better than the DayMaker that HD sales. Bought mine at NAPA. The TruckLite are plug and play.

There are some pretty good comparisons on this forum and the V-Twin forum showing the differences.

A road rock hit and broke my headlight last summer while traveling in Illinois. Harley light replacement (sealed unit) was right at $500.00. I checked around then and aftermarket may have had some better LEDs out there but they were a lot more expensive.

Had the TruckLite older models on my 2007 and my 2011 which I took to my 2012. They are great and lower priced than the H-D offerings. If you bike is under factory warranty or ESP they should cover this failure I would think.

Not covered under the ESP agreement and thanks again for all of the input.
