I have a 2009 Ultra Triglide the reverse motor is going bad, can I take that to a place where they rebuild starters for cars and trucks? They are about $1500. plus labor to replace.

Yes, they can be rebuilt. Here is one place that rebuilds them. Found it with Google.

I will take a look for others and post them up shortly.

Welcome to Trike Talk
Yes these electric motors can be rebuilt
They can even be made stronger in the hands of a good re-builder

On my 2009 Ultra Triglide the reverse motor stopped working. I removed the reverse motor and took it to a Auto Electric Technician. He said one of the brushes was badly burnt. It cost me under a $120. to get it done. He did say that these reverse motors are geared down and the small gear doesn't turn that fast so motor is winding pretty fast. So if you're backing up long driveway do it for 30 seconds than let it cool for 30 seconds. They get pretty hot. I bought my trike back in 2013 so I don't know how much it got used. If I use it within reason it should last a long time. I'm pretty confident in this place and it saved me a lot of money.
Great updated Info since the early years of the TRI on reverse motors
My preference is still the mechanical type
I don't use my reverse often, When I do it is rare I hold it on more than 15 seconds on level ground
When my extended warranty runs out i will go mechanical

Just received the latest issue of AIM. Terry Components has a kit available to repair reverse motors for Triglides. Just passing along info that might interest someone,
I have a reverse motor I'd like to sell. Good condition.
I got the reverse gear kit from Papa Zook, it's so nice to have a real reverse that doesn't wake the dead and jerk you back...
While I had the right rear wheel off, installing the Pro Action shocks from Kevin at DK, I pulled the motor out of there since I won't be needing it any more. I also got rid of the switch and the harness on the left handlebar. The Yaffe Monkey Bars look so much better clean with no wiring showing.
I see that Terry Components came out with a rebuild kit for these reverse motors, $300. I'll give somebody the whole motor for $300. Make me an offer. Can we still do PM's on here?
Wow that's cheap for a spare REV motor..
Someone will get a great deal there.
1,100- and up depending on what kit you get
Check with Zook, I believe he sells em ( IMO Harley missed out on this one)
