Shocks

Re 2018 tri glide

New to trike riding and want to smooth the ride (bumps an sideway rocking). I have tried many different air pressure levels without much change in ride.

Is there anything than can be done? If so, any help with shock brands, shock length and results.

welcome aboard. Try lowering the pressure in the rear tires. 20 to 24 is a good are to try. Then work on the shock pressure. There are a couple of threads on the subject if you do a search of the forum.

Pro Action shocks & the comfort lift kit, are the best remedy. Also like other poster, 20-24 in rear tires.HD air shocks have been crap for years.

Jvcshadow,i am on my second Tri Glide 16 then 17 and I have tried all different combos of tire and shock pressure.Its my opinion that stock shocks are at best barely adequate,after market shocks can be expensive but seem to be the answer.I will be putting a set of the pro action shocks on mine next year.The wife just had c2-3 c4-5 and c6-7 replaced so no riding for her this year so any thing i can do to improve the ride will be money well spent, and yes i do have a comfort lift on the trike.

Your might want to check out DK Custom's web site, they have a whole lot of info on improving the ride. Some of it is pricy, but, it works. the comfort lift alone is a huge improvement, but, couple that with the proaction shocks as stated previously and the bennies are great. They will ask you a few questions and pre set the shocks to your riding style and other factors. Makes it an install and ride project.

If $$ is an issue, then by all means play around with the rear tire pressure. As stated, #20-24 is a good range, but, set them and go over a stretch of road. Reset and do it again on the same stretch. When you find the best pressure, do the same thing with the shock pressure. Takes a little time, but, worth the effort. Even if you do shocks and comfort lift, do the tire pressure adjustment thing.

Remember it's a trike, not a caddy, your not gonna get a "float over the bumps" ride, but, with a little time and money you can get a much better ride.

Fuzzy is spot-on.

The whole secret to setting a trike (any trike) to ride good and handle good is AIR PRESSURE.

20-22 psi rear tires ..... 15-25 psi in air type rear suspension and 40 psi front tire.

These are starting points or default positions.

You can adjust rear suspension up or down pressures for your own riding style and comfort.

Hey jvcshadow!

I just did this shock replacement on my 2016 Tri Glide for the exact same reasons you are considering.....I run rear tire pressure to 22-23 psi for rear comfort (I know its not recommended in book to go lower than 26 psi)....But many others run the lower tire pressure and I found this was a "Must" for me.............A few weeks ago I posted a review here on trike talk that details my positive findings on the rear shock replacement............I went with the Pro Action 14" shocks with Comfort Lift Combo pkg. from DK Custom (www.dkcustomproducts.com).

...The result on my tri glide was awesome!

Update: installed 15"DK shocks in april, ride is mors stable on highway but still bumpy on the streets. Thats what is does its a trike.

Still fun to ride.
