We are planning on being there!
"I don't need a map. I still have a road in front of me!"
Big salute from a heavy seas sailor. Not sure about the 'volunteer' thing back in the 'old' navy days, it was difficult to get off a tin can, 'cause nobody wanted that sea duty. I was good with it, and my only alternative choice would have been underwater. I knew where every thing was and all aboard on that ship by name. A cruiser, a carrier, I could get lost just crossing to go ashore on liberty. ASW, our big thing for that was hedgehogs, that goes way back. Man, we did a lot of those exercises. Well I must say, this thread has been high jacked by some old swabs. Zook is very tolerant, I know a forum that the mods would be all over you for that infraction, ask me how I know. Thanks Zook, apologies all around for those not interested in the read.
I think Zook has allowed us to rant and rave on the Trike Talk Forum "on whatever subject" because he knows that when we get together at our trike events, our affection for trikes may be the excuse for our gathering, but our ability to show an interest in each other's lives is what really cements us together. Our evening "front porch" discussions cover every subject imaginable, and if the discussion in front of you holds no interest, simply move to another "front porch!" I should mention also that our ability to show an interest in the lives of other trikers is the fodder of memories. Sure, we remember our rides, but its the people we ride with that really make our rides and "front porch" discussions so meaningful and memorable.
I remember well a triker lady at one of our front porch discussions two years ago. (Should she read this, she will know whom I am talking about!) Our porch group tried to help her deal with her issues and we prayed for her then, and I still pray for her now. Our meeting was right on for human nature, but certainly off the chart insofar as a trike discussion is concerned. But hey, as I've already said, our front porch discussions are what adds memorable meaning to our gatherings, so let's go for a Maggie gathering in 2018!
That said, if someone will step up to the plate and volunteer to become the head man for our Maggie gathering event, I will help out as best I can. I am still alive and kicking and since there are no daisy's growing over my head, lets go for it!
Best regards,
Chaplain Dave
Good post there Chaplain Dave.....Big salute to Zook and his mods that will let us ramble a bit.
If going by past years, date for arrival Mon Sept 3, Tues registration and Rattler ride. Leave Fri Sept 7. Randy would have to arrange prices with the owner and do preregistration. The event pretty much runs it self. Destinations are decided by the attendees. We just need a couple ride leaders and a hotdog flipper. Lord willing and the creek don't rise, Jan and I intend on being there.
Agreed! This is why I don't fret about this.I understand the need to put in for vacation time or make plans.Far as I know its always the week of Labor Day and that can be used to plan the days and the rest will work out.I think we seem to have the most fun just letting it run itself but thats just my opinion. This opinion written with a lighthearted chuckle.
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Marc, for you and I living here in TN, going to Maggie for a day or so is no big deal. If we go and nothing much is going on, we can turn around and go home the same day. But for the triker's living several states and many miles away, going to Maggie is not only a major commitment of time, it is a major commitment of money as well. We surely don't need to be greatly organized, in all fairness that hasn't happened yet; but we do need someone willing to do things like the following for the weeks event!
1. We need someone to secure a motel and a reasonable rate for our rooms, and see that we are all located in the same area of the motel and not all over the place!
2. We need someone to oversee a base plan of what could or might occur for the week. What goes down on any particular day may not be what was planned, but at least a contingency plan for the day should exist.
3. We need someone to contact Dale of the Wheels Through Time museum, he typically provides many goodies for a raffle and hand outs.
4. We need someone for pre-event purchases and whatever is needed for at least one in house "spatula" meal event.
5. Tickets and plans for a 50/50 raffle. (Proceeds to cover our expenses.)
6. Tickets and plans for a raffle of whatever free goodies.
7. We need a gathering sign up page set up on the TT forum to keep track of whom to expect and what to account for number wise, and provide insight into how many motel rooms we actually need.
8. We should have at least one organized dinner together at a local restaurant, perhaps on Thursday evening, for one big final big celebration together, and the drawing for our 50/50.
I am known to be an organizer, and as you can see from the above, I conform to the calling. HOWEVER, at age 82 I have been there and done the above, and I AM NOT the person we are looking for - so please - do not point a finger at me! I am willing to assist our event hauncho (or haunchos) (sp?) in anyway I can to have them do a top notch job, and have them get all the praise.
We need someone who will make our gathering happen - the job doesn't call for absolute perfection - but for tenacity & endurance.
Best regards,
Chaplain Dave
Ok folks, I'm working on getting us the hotel. I have contacted Randy and he or I should be able to accomplish this soon.
I believe once we have the hotel with dates and prices are set, everything else will fall into place. We have great people and don't think we will have an issue with ride captains or other events such as meals as most do their own thing.
Once we get the Hotel set up, we can establish the registration list. I can look into the possibilities of having a TT Maggie Valley T shirt made up if enough folks are interested.
Looking forward to some great rides and spending time seeing old friends and making new ones.
This is looking very promising, thanks guys.
Hey bro, THANK YOU! I'd be glad to help out and make sure your sub stays surfaced! We need your warm body, not a periscope! LOL! You impress me as the kind of guy you need to have in your sub when all hell breaks lose! I look forward to seeing you once again in person!

Chaplain Dave

Hey! DblTrbl likes to hide and look at life thru a periscope! But we got him to surface and reveal himself, and his secret service is no more!
I know what our friend is capable of, and I look forward to a GREAT gathering of trikers at Maggie for 2018.
We are fortunate to have such a guy at the helm, or is that at the periscope?
Best regards,
Chaplain Dave

OK folks, I have given the dates for the gathering to Randy and he will call to negotiate the rooms/cost.
The dates I provided Randy were:

Now we wait for things to get confirmed with BW Maggie Valley. I will post as soon as I know dates are confirmed and the registration page is active.
