Yesterday morning I had NO SNOW at all in my yard. Got home from work and had 22" of that nasty stuff.
Guess it will be a while longer before I can get the trike out.
I remember the snow there when I lived in Abilene. Snow was oh hum but living every evening in the spring under the possibility of a tornado was another thing. Went to a movie one night and when I returned home, I was all this white stuff in my trees in the front yard. It was my rain gutters off the house. Also the wind had picked up a doghouse I have made from 3/4" plywood based on a wood pallet and even had shingles on the roof (very heavy) and tossed it about 30 feet taking down a section of chain link fence I had just put up. Glad we weren't home as my wife freaking out would have been more unnerving than the storm.
I’ll take the snow over tornados The very few we have here take many years to recover from. With in a month the snow is history.

Born and raised in Oklahoma, moved to ND and married a local girl. Took her home to meet kinfolk. Had a slide in pickup camper we were sleeping in. One night had storms pass through, she was listening to the radio all night.
"Where's Creek county?"
"That's the next county over."
"They have a tornado there, we gotta go to the cellar!"
"That's past us already. Go back to sleep."
"Are you sure?"
All.... night..... long....

I'm assuming you mean Abilene, Texas. Lived there 12 years, graduated high school, and can attest to the wind storms. My prejudice against snow comes from my navy days when we deployed to Adak and wintered over. Taking off from an ice or sludge covered runway was iffy. Landing could be an adventure. Then helped a navy buddy get moved to Alaska after picking up his wife in Topeka. Drove the Alcan there when it was rainy and muddy then back when it was snowed over. Young and stupid, I was.
Yes, Abilene TX. I had a house on Old Anson Rd about 5.2 miles off the freeway. First night in the house we had a major thunderstorm with chance of tornado. Just sat down for dinner and I hear a rumble and house starts to shake a bit...I paused, wife freaks out....sound goes away. It was nothing. A few days later when I get oriented to the area, I discover that my house was in direct alignment with the main runway at Dyess AFB. Every time the B1 Bombers would kick in the afterburners to take off, the sound traveled right through my house. Nothing put pastures or open fields between the base and my house.
Traveling I-20 one trip we stopped at Tye RV park just west of Abilene. Just before dusk those planes started an evening’s worth - yes, until 10pm’sh - of those runs. They fired the afterburners right over that park. The racket was horrendous and the vibration in your chest was awful - they lined up, one after the other....on and on.... The dogs and I were one big basket case when they finally stopped. While it was still daylight, I swear, those planes were so low you could see the individual rivets. Amazingly, or coincidentally I’m sure, once we turned off the porch light on the motorhome they quit flying directly overhead. Jim laughed and said they had been lining up using our light - we were the only camper out in this pasture. It was painfully clear WHY we were the only camper. That was in 1998 before it built up so much out there - was mainly pasture back then.

Every time the B1 Bombers would kick in the afterburners..
There was a radar bomb target next to US85 for a spell. I watched the B1s made bomb runs many times. There would be 4 of them - 2x2 - fly in from the east. The wings would start spreading and they would make a little S curve to sluff off speed. It looked like they were just crawling when they crossed the hiway. Then the wings would sweep back, the smoke would boil out the back end, and they were gone. Those planes moved pretty quick when kicked in the gas...
