Custom Front Fender Skirt thickness?

I am going to make a custom fender skirt for my 2017 tri-glide and was wondering if anyone else has done this and what thickness material they used.

Polished stainless steel and make it 3" longer than stock.

I live on a gravel road and have to drive 1/2 mile to hit asphalt and have already had a rock or stick get up into my belt and damage it, fortunately my insurance company covered it on comprehensive.

Hopefully this will keep it from happening again.

Kevin of DK fame has one someone gave him. He could give you a thickness. I think his was only about 1" longer. I can't measure mine right now for thickness, but for length I think we kept it about 4" above the pavement for clearance.

I actually went out and measured mine a few days ago...then forgot to post.

I got the SS skirt from Richard (NHBAGGER) and then added the emblems to it.

It is 3/64" thick.

That's a little thicker than what I have on hand, what I have is 22 gauge (.029") with a mirror finish where yours is closer to 18 gauge.

I think that will work and should make it a little easier to bend around the corners.

Are your emblems 3" or 3.5" across.

Not sure if I am going with emblems but the ones I have found that I like are 3.5"

It will be a while before I get it all put together and I will post up some photos when I get it done.

Just went out and measured...the emblems are 2.75" in diameter. If I remember correctly, they are gas cap decorative pieces.

After looking at yours I believe the 3.5" emblems I was looking at will be a very tight fit if they fit at all.

Will look and see it I can find some the same size as yours

I made mind out of 1/4 ins. ABS Plastic got sheets on E Bay Good luck I'm still trying too to get a easy way to attach them too trike . BIG DENNY

I just made and installed a fender ext on my 14 Tri Glide . I f I remember correctly it is .022 ", I made mine with polished stainless steel 304. Came out beautiful , only went tw0 and a half inches longer ! No more beat up or muddy water pump cover ! Ebert

Someone named Walter tried to reach me about this and got my daughter. I don't actually make them, I had a sheet metal shop make some different lengths per my design and then used the one I liked. Kevin got lucky and got one of the spares. If you were going to paint one I am sure it could be made of aluminum like the stock one. Making a template is easy. Just remove the stock one and tape some cardboard to it and trace. Remove the cardboard and extend the length down the amount you want and use the same radius on the lower corners as stock. Find a sheet metal shop and decide SS or aluminum.

I wonder when Harley ... or maybe some independent shop (hint ... hint ... no names ... Kevin ... LOL) is going to make these so the less than artistic of us can just buy them. Fender extensions are readily available for the Gold Wing, of course those are plastic. Just a thought.
