My wife and I just purchased our first trike; 2018 Tri Glide Ultra. We've wanted one for a long time, so I test rode it for 10 minutes, did the paperwork, and drove it off the lot.
We needed a longhaul tour bike for the riding we'll be doing for during the next phase of our lives. We are 55 and 53. I am still perfectly capable of riding on two wheels, but I wanted the comfort and relaxation the Tri Glide delivers.
We also have a Dyna Wide Glide, but my wife wants to roll while lounging back comfortably. Our Dyna just isn't rigged for long hauls. After 38 years of riding two-up, this is our first tour bike, so we are looking forward to becoming part of the touring community.
So far, we've only taken it on a short weekend hop for about 300 miles round trip. The Tri's performance was flawless.
We are planning a trip to Eureka Springs, AR in a week or two (we've taken the Dyna there several times). Then for our vacation later this spring, we're going to put it on the road for two full weeks and just go.
We won't have any specific destination in mind, nor do we have a planned schedule or an itinerary. The only plan, is to have no plan. We'll likely head west on Route 66 out of Tulsa, then take it from there.
This forum looks like a place that has people who are a whole lot smarter than me, so I am looking forward to learning as much as I can about touring on a Tri Glide. We've been riding for decades, but trike touring is a whole new world to us.
Thank you all. We are really excited to get started.
