    Default A wiring question

I know this would be easier to understand if I posted pics but that’s not possible at this time.

I had to remove my fairing on my 2012 trike. Before putting the fairing back on the trike I was cleaning those hard to reach areas. I found something that I thought was odd so I checked my Honda Manual but didn’t come up with anything helpful.

On the right side of the trike a group of wires come from the frame area and runs to just above the radiator. Here there’s a female 7p grey connector. The male side of this connector runs to a nearby black box that says PBT however this male connector is disconnected from the female portion of the plug. The kicker is there is another male connector that’s attached to the female end with 3 wires coming out of it and it appears they are shorted to each other.

What is the black box (PBT). Would this be something to do with the trike kit?

    I bought this trike used.

Howdy Dennis. That box is the Tire Pressure Monitor System Receiver. It is disabled during the conversion process otherwise you'd be getting an error on indicator.

BTW - You did a fine job of describing the situation.

Gold Rush, I genuinely Thank You for you quick response.

I knew everything on the trike worked but I forgot about the TPMS. Its obvious the 7P Gray connector that’s unplugged and stubbed off was done so purposely but it gives me a much better feeling knowing why. Thanks Again.

Aaaaaaaaaa thank you, as I will be checking on my bike this weekend, and if I saw that unplugged, I'd "B" freaking out myself.....

The black box plainly says PBT, my first thought was Portable Breath Tester but I knew that was wrong. Searched the Service Manual under the abbreviations but found no PBT. Neither was it in the index.

Jerry, you are used to a frantic phone call "this thing is messed up and I don't know why!! OHHH, NOOOO!!!!!"

That PBT had me scratching my head also... Then I looked in my shop manual at what was in that location. I remember doing something to disable the TPMS when I did my Roadsmith conversion but didn't remember disconnecting anything. I guess CSC does their modification a little differently. As long as it works without any harm caused, all is good.

    Glad I could help!

Just checked the conversion instructions. All I had to do was short two wires together with a jumper.

I have a hard time using the word short when it comes to wiring. Pictures of sparks and melted wires come to mind!

I'm on the wives laptop so Ill get a picture up and help show things.

The female connector coming from the left is attached to the male connector I'm holding. As you can see it has 3 wires coming out of it that are connected together. The male connector coming in from the top goes to the PBT black box and is now disconnected and just left lose.

Google tells me that PBT is the plastic the plug is made of -

Due to the excellent electrical insulating properties, also in wet conditions, it is mainly applied in electronics. PBT has a good chemical resistance and a good long term high temperature stability, important for electronics and automotive applications. Many flame retardant grades are available

It took a Harley guy to find it!

Hey frostbite You might be right BUT usually when the type of plastic is noted on the part it’s on the back with very slight lettering. This black box has the lettering in BOLD saying

    HONDA >PBT G1???.

I took a picture but I cannot read the last 3-4 digits thus the ? due to some wiring & cables. There is also a sticker on this box that says LDL Technologies along with some numbers. All this is what led me to thinking PBT had something to do with its function. Maybe I can steal the wives computer again then I put a picture up.

Sure hope I’m right as losing to a Harley guy on Easter Sunday would be tough! :-)
