I still don't have my exhaust and windshield. He was supposed to pay me for them but still hasn't. I'm pretty sure that when I go down to pick up my trike and he hands me the bill for my repairs, I will tell him to deduct it from what he owes me. I think it might be a wash.
Fingers's X'd for you.... Glad it finely worked out for you, It's been on my mind since we text'ed each other about your problem, a while back...

O' I'm happy to hear that he has a new mechanic, I just may take a ride up there (75Miles) and try to introduce myself!!

I'm extremely surprised with Roadsmith "hanging up" on you, honestly everytime I've called R/Smith with any situation, they have been very pleasant to talk too, and happy to give me any advice, needed...

Not to be a thorn in your azz here, BUT when you talk to them, are you being pleasant, or do you come-on screaming and yelling at them over the phone??
reason askin here, is that I'm in the heating/plumbing biz, and if a customer calls me screaming and yelling at me, they just go to the bottom of the long list that I have in the dead of freezing cold winters.. I find 99% of the time that it's the customers fault that they have NO HEAT, and have to charge them cause they shut off their own emergency service switch...JUST ASKING HERE:[you can answer your own on this one]

I totally agree. You ASK for help. You don't DEMAND help. And never tell them how to do anything. Being cordial works wonders. Sometimes very hard to do when you yourself are frustrated or are in need of immediate action, but that's the only way to deal with anyone. I actually have to get my wife to make calls sometimes because I know I'll start getting rude if they start asking if I've done something and have multiple times per instructions. I just flip off. She's my buffer. Works the other way too with her when I buffer for her on something she's frustrated with. But whatever means you just have to keep cool. Whatever it takes.

Yikes, not good PR for RoadSmith, but there's always two sides to every story. Most reports on the RoadSmith have a happy ending. I've had mine since 2012 and I'm good with it.

I have a 97' GL1500A with a Roadsmith that was installed in 2013. I talked with the mechanic before it was triked and asked what I'd need for options. For the first 2 years every time I went around a sharp corner I felt like I was going to be thrown off the bike. This was usually while carrying a passenger. After doing some research, I decided to have the sway bar changed to the heavy-duty one. 5/8" to 1 1/8" I think. OMG it made all the difference in the world. I don't get that"rolling" feeling anymore. I think it was a $50 option for the heavy-duty sway bar if I'd had it done when the trike was built and cost me around $200 to have it done later but it was still worth it. Over all the bike has been great. After 5 years I'm starting to get a little bored with it and have been looking to possibly switch to something else. I'll probably wait until the 2018 DCT's have been out for a few years and had the bugs worked out of them.

I've been researching those. Seem to have everything you could want in a trike except people (myself included) still haven't gotten used to the looks of the 2 wheels in front yet. I have to try one. They're one of the few companies in Massachusetts that will let you test drive them. The biggest problem is most likely finding a dealership that knows how to work on them.

Brian, you point out a couple of things of interest, especially the dealership that can do the fix. That is one big "if". Horror stories still abound. One dealer I know locally, they do Canam Spyders, Polaris Sling Shot and four wheelers, and Indian m/c's. Well my friend just bought an Indian there, the battery died soon thereafter, friend hauls the Indian back to the dealer for a warranty fix, the Indian tech is off on a cruise; come on, surely there is a tech that can replace a battery that doesn't have to be Indian certified, but then, maybe there's some kind of rule or complication. This is not a condemnation of Canam dealers, just a look behind the scenes in support of your last statement.

I've posted on this forum that I did the demo ride on the Spyder RT, I truly enjoyed the ride, could not find fault, front wheels, no problem for me and I've been doing the Road Smith for over 6 years with wheels in the back. In the end, I chose to stay with what I know vs what I don't know even though I was sorely tempted by the Spyder RT. The wife liked it, I liked it, but that's not all there is to buying what you want to serve your riding needs and fit your financial wallet.

Motorman - sorry to hear you've been having issues with your trike. I really need more information. I would also like to get to the bottom of why the installer is not being helpful, and who at my company would have hung-up on you. Please give me a call at 800-331-0705, or PM on triketalk.

    Thanks, Jim

Yep, my wife loves hers. I forget about on those very rare occasions I have to ride it and forget to down shift after being frustrated up shifting. Glad it takes care of my incompetence. After that slight problem shifting up and I remember just how easy it is, I like it too.

    Cool Whats on fenders!

    Hello,

Wondering what is on your rear fenders?

Is it an overlay product or rhino lining, just think it might be a good idea for my trike.

    Thanks for the post,

    David Hilton Ret. USN ETC/SS

    David....

The triker in San Angelo I mentioned in my greeting-reply note to you has a similar rhino lining on his trike. If you are interested in seeing it I might be able to get you in touch with him. If interested please PM Fuzzywuzhe, a moderator on TrikeTalk, for my contact info.

    Question Rhino Lining, Got it.

Hello, and thank you for the quick reply to my question.

I am still very new to trikes and only have had mine a couple of weeks, I put a photo in my newbie introduce yourself post (Howdy from San Angelo Texas).

I can do paint and body work if I need to (it's very labor intensive), and I have seen several trike photos with snap on vinyl covers and yours was the first I had seen attacking the problem using rhino lining.

I can imagine that the front of the fenders could be a high prone paint chip area, and really wondered if I should address this before it gets chipped up?

    What do you think!

    Thank you again,

    David Hilton Ret. USN ETC/SS

Cool What a thread on Rhino lining

    Hello,

Wow, thank you for the link, not only do I like the Rhino Lining, there was one trike there with it also on some side boards.

That has me thinking, I may have to add something like that on mine too.

    Thank you again,

    David Hilton

I still don't have my exhaust and windshield. He was supposed to pay me for them but still hasn't. I'm pretty sure that when I go down to pick up my trike and he hands me the bill for my repairs, I will tell him to deduct it from what he owes me. I think it might be a wash.
The new mechanic, was his name James, by any chance? I spoke with James the other day and was very impressed, he knew his "stuff'
