The first mod I made to my wife's 2010 was to replace the pegs with the Kuryakin floorboard kit. Other than trying to adapt to not having 1 down and 4 up, I haven't heard any complaints.

I am curious to see what others have to say.

I am currently teaching my sister how to ride her trike. She is doing fine EXCEPT she has this block where she can't operate the heel toe shifter. I can't get it thru her head how to operate it. Do others ever had that problem? I never met anyone who had such a difficult time just remembering how to shift with a heel toe. I've had both, but never really felt I needed one except on the Harleys that I owned.

If it’s there, eventually they might use it. Some can adapt, and some don’t want to adapt. It’s not your choice it’s thers She might change when the ingrown toe nail develops

Has anyone used a heel toe shifter with foot pegs I can't get my old club foot under the toe shifter thinking about changing to heel toe type on a Honda GL1800. Thanks for any input

I bought the Kury heel & toe shifter to be used with stock pegs. Installed it on my GL1800 and after a short ride decided it was not for me. I found it a little cumbersome for me to heel shift with my size 9.5 boots. It may work better for bigger feet. PM me if you would be interested in it.

Reason I removed mine from my 1100 was I felt it was too hard on the tranny.. You have a tendency to Yogi Bear stomp on it when down shifting. I just explained to the young lady I taught. Put toe under shifter and pick up toe till light comes on. Them remove toe from under it. When you get to a light step down until the green light blinks or count out 5 steps. Put toe under shifter and starts over
When I am gona fix something I will fix it. You don't have to bug me every 6 months.

    Maintenance is fairly easy.

For me, I wish the heel peg was a bit more forward and down a bit. With my new knee, it is sometimes harder to "reach" the OEM position for the heel, especially when knee is tired. No more "speed shifting".

I had a heel/toe shifter on my 2000 Valkyrie Interstate and thought it was great, but that was BK (Before Knee).

Add-On lowboys FBs with a self made shift lever that allows normal shifting and I added a heal rest. Heal rest was originaly a pad on a brake pedal. I place boot up on rest, toe under / on shifter, shift normally. I also made it adjustable for heavier winter boot use. I can ride with feet on FBs, or angled with toes on FBs, heels on rests, or feet out on boards fastened to engine guards.

I actually cut the toe pad off the Add-On brake pedal, and used it as a heel rest on left FB, the cut Toe pad off Honda Brake Pedal and welded that onto Add-On Brake pedal.

Boy, that flash really shows up minor wear marks that don't regularly show up!!!!!!

Found up shifting from 1st to 2nd was a killer especially when trying to get out into traffic. The tranny slammed into 2nd and I’ve read of trans failures with riders using the heal and toe shifters. After a 3000 mile trip down south last year I couldn’t wait to take them off.

That said, I did love the floor boards just not the shifter. So I just fabricated a riser for the shifter that allows me to shift up and down without using the heal. The toe shifter is now tall enough that allows me to stick my boot under the shift and up shift.

I initially did mine with no added heal rest. the "low boys" had on the right to allow resting the heal on while braking, but I found it very comfortable just riding, then is when I added one to left.

I love floorboards but I do not like a heel shifter. I have taken the heel off all my Harleys. I grew up using nothing but toe shifters. Been doing it that way for 54 years and I am used to it. I know some Harley riders would not ride without a heel shifter. It just gets down to what you get used to and personal preference. I would like to put FBs on my GW but I only see them sold as H-T combos. I would make them like Crystal Pistol, but I'm not that talented. And I've never had an ingrown toenail.
