I bought a Mustang backrest. It was the only one I could find that would lay down flat on the drivers seat and stay down while my wife is getting on. All the others I looked at would lay down but spring back up, also I didn't see a need to adjust it while driving. I know others have mentioned that they have that type and really like it.

Mine came with the HD adjustable. Haven’t moved it once the happy spot was found.

I've had the HD on the go adjustable for over 5 yrs. Wouldn't have anything else. Also bought the Bone Mountain
slip over accessory cover for the wife. Very convenient for pocket camera, sun glasses, etc.
Put on the HD standard (not the on-the-fly adjustable). there is plenty of adjustment available during install to suit me. Works well for me and wife. Wouldn't go without it now.

I also have the standard riders backrest on my 2012 Triglide. The book says only the higher priced adjustable while you ride one will fit but that's a bunch of crap. I have had the standard backrest on all my bikes and never felt the need to move or change it.
Get what you want and enjoy the backrest. Don't buy the higher priced one just because they say the standard wont work. It will.

So it appears I am in the minority here. May have to do with the spine issues I have, but I really like the adjustable. On long rides {400 Miles or more} I probably adjust it once. Not much, but it really moves the back and leg pressure area for me. On the short runs, I don't usually move it, but sure is nice to have the option.....for me.
I have 2 disc fused in my upper back and have the adjustable back rest. Wouldn't be without it. I will adjust it several times while on longer rides. I also will lean it in more towards me when in twisty roads with it up higher to help give me more leverage to make the turns. then tilt it back for more leisurely rides.
