    Default demo

Being a new member for about a week, I figured I would post this on the general forums, if by chance this is not the correct forum, Mods please move it! Yesterday wife and I went to a local dealer 's open house and later met up with friends. Anyhow we got there a little early so I myself took 1200 C sportster for a demo, took it because it was a lighter bike and with my lack of riding this season. When I got back I had started to feel a little buyers remorse. Being back on a two wheeler was, I thought more fun than my trike. I have about 500 miles on my trike, but felt as though something was missing. Don't get me wrong I like my trike, and my wife said a week ago when following me she feels more at ease knowing that I'm more visable and more stable when on3 vs 2 ,but I felt more alive on that little sporty than I have on this trike, has anyone else felt this way after making a transition or is it just me?

Ron, as you put more miles on your trike you will see how much fun three wheels really is!

My advise is to quit thinking binary. The only thing better than a bike or trike is one of each and several of each is even better. I had to give up bikes when my legs quit working right but I cannot say one is better than the other. Neither demands monogamy. Keep your trike AND buy the Sporty!!

I’m a firm believer that you need both. My 500cc scooter is just enough to make me think I can still do it That’s my grocery getter !

When I first traded my Road King for my Freewheeler I missed the 2 wheel feeling, but got over it after several rides and a few trips. I cannot say I had buyer's remorse but I did wonder "what was I thinking?" a few times. Now I LOVE my trike.

Ride it on some nice sweeping country roads and you will forget you have 2 wheels on the back.

    Default hello Ron

I understand your post , personally I don't know if any one don't remember there 2 wheel rides and think, that was a great feeling. I know I do, but I would not or could not go back to 2. the pros so out ways the cons. we ride just as much on 3 as we did on 2 and much more conferrable, and just as fun. ( once you get good on 3 it will take a real good 2 wheeler to keep up with you on the ruff stuff.) I have never regretted going to 3 and wished I had done it much earlier. so ride safe, ride often & have fun

"but I felt more alive on that little sporty than I have on this trike"

    Hey Ron,

I know that feeling...BUT, it is tricky, as feelings often are.

    I ride both 2 wheels and 3. I have a couple of Sportys, a Softail and a Tri-Glide.

If I ride only the Trike for a while, I will get a hankering to get on one of the 2 wheelers...and it feels pretty good.

BUT, it works the other way too. If I ride only the 2 wheelers for a while, I will start missing the Tri-Glide. When I get on the Tri-Glide I go "Ah, back home".

It is nice to be able to ride both...BUT, if I had to choose between the two, I would choose the Tri-Glide.

If you can have both, I say go for it. If not, give the Tri-Glide some more miles, I think with time you'll realize that they are a ton of fun.

Here's a video of Mary and I on the Tri-Glide on The Dragon...you can see you can feel pretty alive on a Trike.

    Nothing wrong with owning two:

I didn't make it a year with the trike before I had to get back on two. And if I had to get rid of one the trike would lose. (Sorry, guys )

When i first switched to 3 wheels from 2 i also missed the 2 wheels, but my wife had stopped ridding her own 2 wheeler 3-4 years prior and she wanted to start riding but behind me.Now keep in mind we have rode together her on her own for over 30 years,so know with me having aging hips and knees i was pretty unsteady riding two up.So for me it was a logical choice and economical( she was looking at a $ 40,000 convertible). Two trikes later and 20,000 miles i am very comfortable with the trike and we love it. But i still miss two wheels that is why i am getting her 93 FXLR back from our son for just the summer,he has a Road Glide so the Low Rider sits a lot.She had neck surgery on Feb 28 of this year and doc said NO riding for one year so i will have two wheels for this summer. This will let me know if i want to get a older 2 wheeler just to buzz around on.But i can relate to how you feel,if you can swing it find a older bike just to satisfy that 2 wheel itch.

Thanks for the comments and support, having both is not in the picture now or in the future. Glad I'm not the only one that has felt this way, feel better now. I figure it may take a little more seat time to forget about the two wheel thing. I guess I only rode her trike when we went on trips as I had two wheelers at home. Supposed to be nice here in Pa. most of the week, so going to get more seat time in. Guess since its my primary ride now it takes some getting used to!

I have been riding Trikes...For over ten years now and always had a two wheeler, Till last summer when i sold my last one... Do i miss them yes, Will ever get another one, I don't think so....And i won't test one either...Just like when i quit smoking in 1970, If i tried just one i'll be right back.... Both my Son and his wife have bikes and tell me anytime you want the keys are in them take them out for a ride.. Thanks but no thanks, If i did that i would probably buy another one..

My first bike was a Dyna low rider, I will find one to park next to the trike. Should I feel the need to drag some foot pegs this will satisfy my urge.

Other wise the Trike will give us the pleasure of riding two up safely.

    Default Two vice three

I firmly agree with most of these posts but have to admit that I am truely one of the LUCKY ONES, Wife convinced me to keep our 1988 FLHS (we bought new) when I bought my 2010 HD trike.......now at almost 74 years old I still ride (and enjoy) BOTH, leaning more/more to the trike but...........

    current miles bike 274 thou

    current miles trike 92 thou

    current H O G miles 399 thou +

    EVERYONE ENJOY THE RIDE

When I bought my trike I kept my 2wheeler,after a year I had put 500miles on the 2 wheeler and 10,000 on the trike,so I sold the bike. I still miss it occasionally but not enough to buy another one.

I too still own a motorcycle and a trike. Bike was paid off several years ago and didn't feel I could get a fair price for it. So it is in the garage. I do still enjoy two wheels occasionally but honestly prefer the triglide. It's a smoother more relaxed ride than the two wheel. For the first week or so I thought I'd made a mistake buying the trike but after that, Love It! It takes some getting used to but believe me the more you ride it the better it gets. Riding two up most of time is so much better. I'm more relaxed and mama is loving that big 'ol comfy back set. If mama is happy... well you know the rest. Have a blessed day and enjoy that trike, Rev J.

I don't give it a second thought. As long as I'm in the wind on a motorcycle that's all that matters.

Don't have time to take care of another bike. 2 cars and a TG are more than enough for me to clean/wax/change oil/maintain etc. I'd rather be out riding. That's why I haven't washed the cars in 5 years and the TG in 3 years. Ride the damn thing and let the dirt hold it together.

Default Don't miss it at all

Been riding the street for over 50 years.Done with two wheels. It must have been early May.I remember the butterflies were out.The horrible New York winter had finnaly receded.I was 4 and standing on the corner outside Dads house.I didn't know what it was called but knew I wanted one.A cop on a Servi-Car came round the corner.I ripped off a burst from the Mattel tommy-gun at him and he did the bang bang fingers back at me.Now all I need is one of those dynamo sirens that wind down for 15 minutes.

I went for a quick ride today and a walk then a quick ride home. Stalled it once I figure the weight and the lower rpm's is something to get used to. I figure this Friday it will be a month since I rode it home. Still getting used to it and was taken advantage of the pleasant weather. I do have to take it to be inspected on next week, weather permitting, don't mind riding in the rain if out,but if it's called, for to me that's a different story, also I called the dealer to check the no start in gear, even with the clutch in and both brakes applied. It appears to me to be an intermittent issue as it started in the garage , later on, so I don't know, it sure hampens the confidence. Two Sundays ago I stalled it 4 times and once I had put it in neutral ,which I found , so the other time sit started in gear with the brakes on, which I do not like.
