Reverse Motor Problem

Having a problem with my reverse; engine running, in neutral, press reverse button and wait for it to light up steady. Once it does all I get is a clicking from the RCM solenoid. Breaker not tripped, checked voltage before and after breaker and RCM solenoid while pressing the reverse button and getting a little over 14 volts.

Pulled reverse motor and bench tested it and it seems to operate fine, checked voltage at the reverse motor connections and still getting a little over 14 volts with the motor running. Cleaned all of the connections and reinstalled, same thing just a clicking at the RCM solenoid.

Any ideas?

You should bench test with a load sometimes the brushes are bad and just have enough power to turn the motor with out a load on it . Open the motor and check the brushes!📞

I guess the part that has me puzzled is that while bench testing the pinion gear will extend and rotate but installed on the trike the pinion won't even extend. Looks like I have some more things to check out.

Not saying its the brushes but i had my motor out 3 times and it was always the brushes, [2011 Tri] The 4Th time i just left it in and had a mechanical reverse put in..

That said i ride all winter, And the salt laden puddles take there toll on the brushes..

Do you have the trike service manual?The reverse motor diagnostics are in there along with beautiful diagrams that I could study for hours.Okay I need a life.One of tips given is to raise the rear wheels on jackstands before testing.Clamp an induction ameter at the + cable next to reverse motor,start engine -turn on reverse motor, draw should be 90A not exceed 150A.

I'm confused. How can the reverse motor draw 90 amps when it's on a 50 amp breaker?

My Freewheeler has a 50 amp breaker for the reverse motor under the right cover where you air the shocks.

It's electrical common sence. If you take the right cover off and look at the breaker, it says 50A on it.

I'm not an engineer either, but the military sent me to the college of electrical knowledge. Look at your dwelling breaker box and see how many 150 amp breakers there are. Maybe the main, but that would be it.

While I slept last night aliens descended onto my garage. They implanted this strange component in my FLRT.It has weird markings-here they are:HI-Amp, Buss,150A.Waterproof(sure), 1855150F. Oh please tell me what could it all mean???
