Default The Wide Glide Frankenstein Trike Conversion Has Begun...

I've wanted to do this for a very long time.

    The innocent victim awaits.

The rear wheel, the rear fork, and the rear caliper are history.

    New rear fork installed.

Side bar: As I was preparing to torque the pivot shaft of the new rear fork to 75 ft-lbs I was straddling the bike; left foot on the 1 1/8", bending over to the right to keep the 1 1/8" socket and the torque wrench squared up. The Lady came out in to the garage on her way to the office and said, 'I guess you plan on a face plant today? Get on the right side of the bike!' Being the deviant I am I needed an image. She held the combination wrench while I got the 75 ft-lbs on the right side. She's a good sport, that one Some times you need an extra set of hands; sometimes, you just need a gal in heels

The Frankenstein 38" Sport Trike rear. This is some seriously, very well made goodness.

    Continued...

Ready to be positioned under the Wide Glide.

Now, I'm starting to see exactly what this beastie is going to look like

There's still a great many things to do, but the conversion is underway. She won't ever be truly done; I've already got ideas for doing apes and an open belt primary with foot clutch and jockey shift. They're never done, they just evolve. I'm hoping my special order front wheel will be here by the end of May. That 21 x 3.50 wheel will be the finishing touch on stage one of the conversion.

This 38" Sport Trike Frankenstein kit is absolutely tier 1; this is nice stuff! A big shout out to Daniel at Frankenstein for all the help he gave getting this organized, and a shout out to Kayla at WanaRyd for hooking me up with the package deal on that front wheel The fenders are currently at prep and paint; hopefully by the end of next week they're going to be ready.

There will be more images as the carnage continues; now, it's certainly 5 o'clock somewhere!

    And it continues

    Drive belt on.

Not a fan whatsoever of the Jenga stack, but that's what it takes to get it done. The drive line side star plate and axle installed.

    Name: DSCN2465.jpg
Views: 433
Size: 485.8 KB

Not caring at all for the Jenga stack; the drive line side wheel mounted in case she might slip as I position and align the rear fork bolts to the star plates. She'd land on her wheels should she slip, and not the billet.

    Name: DSCN2468.jpg
Views: 421
Size: 587.1 KB

Aligned the rear axle to the rear fork, got the mounting bolts in and kicked out the Jenga stack

    Name: DSCN2473.jpg
Views: 440
Size: 761.0 KB

Still much to do; that sinful flip out HD afterthought of a license plate mounting bracket has to go, immediately, it almost touches the 265 tire; and that rear brake line is about 2 feet longer than is needed. And many more changes are coming.

Tested her out on the J&S Rock solid!

Pro tip: don't try this with a triked Dyna and one of those cheap modded Sears/HF lifts; there will be bitter tears.

A long day; and I think it's time for some celebration I just love this thing! And this is just the first of several stages of planned upgrades...

    Hey Darryl,

It is looking unbelievable. Won't be long now until you have the perma grin once you get it on the road.

Darryl, this is too cool. I love watching your progress and I love your wife's shoes. She is a wonderful wife, sure hope she enjoys riding the trike with you when it's ready to roll.

The fenders are back from prep and paint; these things are sweet! They color matched the HD 'vivid black' exactly; they did a computer color match off of the electrical box cover. It was not easy to get images of these critters, these things are reflecting everything in the garage; and the garage is the best I could do today, it's raining They're now up on a high padded shelf pondering life, ready to be mounted once the new rear brake line is in and the exhaust installed.

The HD trashtastic flip out license plate is off the bike and I'm building a one-off license plate bracket to position the plate directly under the fender beneath the LED brake light. I wanted to keep my run/turn/stop signals AND the under fender LED, and as no such animal exists in the wild, I'm building it, with dual hidden LED plate lighting.

This thing is going to be a beastie

Lookin good!! I almost ended up with a Frankenstein when Champion stopped offering the kit for my Road Star. Champion and Frankenstein were the only kits where you could do it yourself. I'm sure grandma would miss the trunk, but I like the open look.

If you ever get over to the west side, let us know. We have some nice roads over here.

    Cool

I'm truly offended by the battle flag of northern Virginia hanging off your wall, offended its not on my wall, my wall is full of stuff, 34 of my family fought for the gray and 43 for the blue, mmm, wonder if i gave them a tour of the third world cities they help create in this country today if they would think the sacrifice of a million Americans was worth the effort.

I have a Frankenstein conversion on my 99 e glide police, its good, installed by them, bought by me from the son of a marine pow from Korea, and a mason, with no removable emblems on the back, mmm, po po are in masons big time an i know some, soooo, they stay an maybe a ticket or two will pass me by, at least my buds do that with big decals on their rides for that effect.

All that bs aside, nice ride, no raked trees yet on my mine, its not bad, but i gotem, jus gotta getem on. Ride safe, keep us posted, best to ya.

The RC Components special order wheel is here. Manufactured in Kentucky; 'Merica!

It's the Czar Eclipse 21 x 3.50 wheel with an ME888 120/70-21 tire, dynamically balanced with Ride On and running Timken 205PP wheel bearings. A huge shout out to Kayla and the crew at WanaRyd; it was a flawless process, and the wheel even got here earlier than I thought it would. Zero regrets...

Next up, fun with fender fitment. Now I've got to get that beautiful beast of a wheel on the Wide Glide.
