Default Anyone using the HD Cool Flow Fan to Reduce M8 Heat

Is anyone running with the MoCo's CoolFlow Fan (PN 26800121)? I know it is bargain priced at $299.95. I know about the $29 air deflectors. Just wanting feedback on the fan from anyone using it.

I think a lot of the heat is coming from the catalytic converter rather than the cylinder.... of course the two in combo are the real issue. Not sure what options exist (if any) for modifying the catalytic converter location. But trapping heat from the converter above the tranny seems like something that could promote excessive heat at the rear cylinder.

So.... anybody running with the fan? Does it improve the heat situation on the M8?

Although I can't help with the fan or it's effectiveness, it seems that Harley is putting band aides on the issue (at the consumers expense). Although I will really miss my V twin, air cooled, engineered vibration, hot on the legs and loudly obnoxious Harley power plant, I think in the very near future, Harley will have to go in a different direction. I know, I know, it's sacrilege, but, I think it will happen. I used to think the EPA was going to be the death of the beast, but, with our President rolling back the "King's" regulations, maybe Harley has a second life. I still think at some point, the consumer will kill the beast, but, Hopefully not in my lifetime.

Good luck with your pursuit of cool legs. There's a great thread and writeup about removing heat on the beast written by DK Custom Product's Kevin. In my humble opinion, the most successful bang for the buck is getting the engine some more fuel to keep it cooler. The problem is that there are warrantee issues. Of course, if anyone, other than Harley, washes the ride, that voids the warrantee ... LOL.

$300.00 bucks plus dealer activation?Don't seem like much of a bargain to me.Also note that silly device takes up valuable free space around back of the rear cylinder thats used for air flow. No thanks.

I have one on my 2017 Freewheeler. I had it installed by Doc's HD in south St. Ĺouis county.

I agree the heat is coming from the catalytic converter. It pulls the heat away from that area & directs it toward the ground & it definitely helps.

The fan is integrated with the FW speedometer LCD display & as you toggle the 3-way switch, it goes from auto to off to on. It reads in the display "fanauto, fanoff & fanon". I normally leave it in auto, but if I use on, I do not hear it with the motor running.

Between this fan, the DK Customs 1.5" tank lift & Lucas full synthetic high performance motorcycle oil, I am running cooler. I also enabled the EITMS system on May 1st.

Be advised, there are, I believe, 3 different P/N's for the fan, so make sure you get the correct 1.

IMO, the Love Juggs is a better way of getting rid of the heat

The fans push the hot air thru the heads and out the other side into the air flow

I have reduced my heat by 50 degrees with The Mighty Mites. Give Randy ( Papa Zook ) a call about Love Juggs

    You will be amazed

Thanks Michael.... My ride and MANY parts come from Doc's and yep.... I saw the various models. Old Road Dog Mike has a point in trying to keep the area behind the rear cylinder uncluttered

Thinking about the new "move the catalytic converter" set up to address the problem rather than the symptom + a form of air flow/cooling management (Cool Fan, Oil Cooler Fan, Love Jug Fan, liquid nitrogen cryo freezing alien gas attack methods, fire suit pants.... etc.) Thanks for the feedback

To be honest with you, I probably would not of bought it, my son got it in CA from the dealer I got the trike from & sent it to me. Every other dealer wanted more to install it & Doc's did it for the best price & did quality work, so I picked them to be my dealer. I have done all other work.

It is the best approach. Doc's is not really in to doing things other than selling the bikes and servicing them these days. So I do most everything on mine myself as well. Its more fun that way anyhow. I have been going to Docs since 1976. I knew Ralph well and Patty a little. But in those days they helped you work on anything. They helped me a lot with my 47 servicar.... ah the good ole days

    My opinion ,worth .02 ,

Sooner or later a full liquid cooled motor will be born. It will reduce the amount of warranty heat issues HD has , that expense can go into the redesign. The long run, happier customers and better sales. They just halfto admit the air cooled era is done ✅

    That is a good point

Then HD can increase power also

The Water cooling can handle the heat with out losing power

This will make the EPA happy also

I wonder how long it will take to fully roll this out

IMO they cannot make a much bigger air/ oil cooled V Twin with out creating the added killer heat problem

This may disappoint some purists IMO

The current service manager, Tim, is a good guy and ex Navy, like myself. They do a lot of work with Vets helping to modify the rides for special needs. They also do a lot with 1st responders. Tim spent an hour with me when I 1st went there, talking military & showing me around. I appreciated it. I told him he passed the interview. I have bought filters & my Custom Dynamic LED front turn signal inserts from them & while they were installing the Cool-Flow fan, someone went out and installed them N/C. I know it's a simple job, but it was a nice gesture. They also give a 10% Vet/1st. responders discount on both parts & service, a nice touch also.

Well yes.Yes the MoCo should do that. Since the Revolution motor sold like turds on a stick at the county fair on a hot day-not that it wasnt a good idea.Somewhere deep in the bowels of Juneau Ave there is a full liquid cooled big inch 45 degree motor with overhead cams.I just know it. But it won't be rolled out till all us baby boomers take the big dirt nap.
