After reading this post, Im so glad I opted for a mechanical reverse. whole thing was cheaper than the 1,3** they were talking about.
The only way to fly backwards if ya ain’t got the extendo warranteeo, is to go mechanical.

The Senior Pass is a must do for us old guys that camp. Last year 2 of us stayed at NFS park right on the lake with electricity, water, grill and improved tent pads. $12. Unbelievable deal. And I left my cell phone I discovered 80 miles down the road in another state. I called the campground with my friends phone, they said they would look for it and call them back in 15 minutes. I did, Park Ranger found it and met me half way at the state line. How awesome was that? Great folks and the Senior Pass is a great deal. 1/2 price plus other free cg benefits.Did you get your old farts pass for all the Nat'l Parks ??

Yes, I have my old farts' pass.......BUT, when we went to see that "Crazy Horse partial statue" near Mt. Rushmore they get around the pass by charging 14 Bucks to park your motorcycle!!!!!! = major rip! (no Senior discount either)
.....at Mt. Rushmore just down the street, they too just charged for parking, but the dude gave me A SENIOR DISCOUNT for being over 63 and it only cost me 5 bucks to park!
....I guess these 2 parks are state parks and not federal?............ Whatever.

My buddy sent his reverse motor to a rebuilder for right around $100. He said it was pretty easy to change out and took him about an hour.
Current: 2019 Trike (custom 130ci T-Man kit with Darkhorse bottom end)

Reverse Motor Failure
I responded too another post on this issue earlier. My 14 TriGlide has had Two reverse motors replaced and after hardly using them at all. Seems as if they failed on flat surfaces ( backing out of my garage ). You are correct that price seems ridiculously astronomical and it sure shocked me when I saw it on the invoice. ( thank goodness for Extended Warranty )Got back from a few days at the coast here in Texas (Corpus Christi)............when I got back and put the TG in reverse = it rolled a couple of feet and just quit workin'!!!
...Yes, I checked the red button and little lever fuse (wasn't blown) and all I got was a "Click" sound when I hit reverse........Wife didn't like pushing TG in reverse when needed (didn't bother me so much) and demanded an immediate trip to the HD Dealer for a fix!
...So, just got it back from dealer and sure enough the reverse motor had burnt out or whatever (who knows why)...........This is on my 2016 TG and was fully covered by warranty.
.......If it hadn't been for warranty it would have cost me $1395.00 and .7hrs labor...plus tax of course!
..........Wow what a rip cost for just a lousy reverse motor (small starter motor)
...............Don't know why I'm posting this.........guess it was just because I was "AGASP!" at what these things cost!

The one on my used 2014 went out at about 11K miles. Thank God for the extended warranty.
There must a shop close to everyone that rebuilds starters, generators and alternators.
These are rebuildable I am sure.
Did they do HD work for you? I didn't see anything about motorcycles on their site.

"Yea!" for extended warranty on Harleys!............Normally, I dont buy extended warranties on cars and such.....but because I didn't know much about motorcycles when I bought my 2016 TG , so I opted to purchase it..............Warranty has saved my butt several times now! (and I only have appx. 30K miles on it so far)....I wouldn't be without all the warranty I can buy for my HD. (Gonna need it!)
...You know, I find it astonishing that HD has been building these motorcycles for maybe a hunnerd' years now? ...........WTF?
...Oh well, that's just me venting! .....maybe all motorcycles breakdown as much as the HD? (I admittedly don't have enough experience to say)......but still= DAMN!!!!!!

Flip side of you Randy, 28,000 on ours & (knock on wood) no warranty issues for us . I do use reverse every ride. I backed up the drive with an incline. I made it about 35 feet before I blew my fuse for the first and only time.

Mine croaked @ 7500 miles.....replaced on extended warranty. Got an additional 12K miles on the new one, no problems yet and I use it often.

I live about 40 miles from their shop. Called and talked to them; told them what I had. They're not cheap - $259 for a total rebuild, including the lifetime warranty.
I opted for the mechanical reverse. My "H-D Reverse Assist" motor is in a parts bin in the garage.

Hey Bill!
...I was at my Harley Dealer yesterday and had my clutch fluid drained and changed......while there, I spoke with my mechanic....He said they will no longer just exchange the defective reverse motors on warranty work (unless the housing or something severe happened to defective reverse motor)....instead, Harley is now making them use a rebuild kit for all reverse motor warranty work.............just tellin' what he said.

....also while I was at the dealer, I found my original 2 yr warranty had just expired......I "THOUGHT" I had purchased the extended warranty for an extra year when I bought the trike, but I did NOT.......................So I just went ahead and purchased another 3 yr warranty policy from HD........cost me a howling 2400 bucks!!!!!! (hope I never need it....but I bet I do).....I think someone told me that the computer info center alone is 3500 bucks should it ever fail....and it happens!
