Okay, so a few days ago my media component door popped open while riding (that's the door where you could put a cell phone or mp3 player). I assumed I just hadn't closed it well, so I closed it. I popped open again. When I got home, I noticed one of the little tabs on the "latch" was gone.
So off to the MoCo yesterday to order a new latch. Who knew, they had two of them in stock. $4.25 each. I bought one.
So today I had one small job, so I decided to get the manual out and install this little gem. Man, there's a lot to get to the little bugger. So before I removed the outer faring again, the right speaker box, and the compartment, just to replace the latch....I looked closer.
The part number is 49 and it's on the left front of the compartment as you look at the pic.
So, I started looking at the new latch, it has clips on both sides and it is designed to slide in the square hole from the compartment opening. The new one was tiny and didn't look too stout, so I grabbed it with a pair of needle nose pliers and pulled. It came out in pieces. Three to be exact.
The new latch slid in, clicked and the door now stays shut. Well, not being one to leave well enough alone, I was looking at what I could use that little space for. My phone won't fit (iPhone X), Then it hit me, if I re routed my Power Vision cable and moved the Power Vision Mount to the right side and my Butler drink holder to the left ... I could store the cable for the Power Vision in the compartment when I don't have the PV on the mount. Since I have the bike running really well, and the speedo is now accurate to a tenth of a mile in a 100 mile ride, I won't mount the power vision unless I go on a trip (mostly to monitor various parameters). With the Power Vision not mounted, the cord is vulnerable to weather. So here's my fix, i still need to dress it up and touch up the paint, but, it's getting hot and I am a wuss ... LOL.
So here's my fix.
While I was on a roll, I did remember the post about the Phat Spark Plug wires rubbing on the gas tank weld, so I looked. No wear on the wires, but, I did take a piece of fuel line about two inches long, spit it and wrap its around the Phat Wires. If anything rubs, it will be the fuel hose.
I may remove the hose and paint it flat black to get rid of the writing, the put it back.
