It could have been a lot worse, at least you're telling us what happened, not room temperature. Did you hydroplane on water or mis judge the turn? I've hydroplaned on 2 wheels, super scary. Take care and heal buddy. All is good.

Gary, Sorry to hear that you got your bell rung near Tapoco. We stayed at the Tapoco Lodge one year and I rode the wheels off of my bike through the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, etc. Those roads have to be respected, especially for Florida flatlanders like myself. Hope that you mend quickly. As someone else said, trikes can be replaced easier than our body parts

Don’t know the whole story Gary, but just glad your 👍 ok! If it was on 2 wheels maybe a worse outcome .

Hope you heal quickly. When we rode the Dragon I followed my buddy from Kentucky on his 18 trike. We were hitting it as hard as we could but it was wet that morning. My rear wheels lost traction and slid out on me on one of the really tight turns so we backed off a little. I was just lucky it wasn't on a wet bigger curve with more speed.

Ended up in the hospital in Marysville, but since they didn't have the right equipment, they sent me up to the U of T Medical Center in Knoxville. Spent 3 days there then my son and sister in law came down to get me and the trike. I'm pissed I didn't get to do the Dragon - so close. I should be pretty well mended in about 6 to 8 weeks. At least no surgery's so far. My left shoulder was x-rayed but no broken bones, but I still can't lift it. I'm thinking maybe a muscle or tendon or ? Probably need a CAT scan or something. Haven't heard yet if the bike is totaled or not. It could have been worse.
So sorry. But let me take the opportunity to admonish others. We all like to test our skills but if you over cook it on the road you can get seriously hurt and, worse, wait a long time for medical attention. So, all you hot dogers out there - get thee to a race track. Join a local road race club like WERA and go to school. You will find that what you thot was 100% was really only 70% - that you can go a lot faster than you think. Moreover when (not if) you crash there will be an ambulance there in seconds.

Forgive my intercession - I've lost too many friends.

Every year I take the Skyline Dr/BRP/Cherohala back from Rolling Thunder so I'm a little familiar with the roads. I've done the Dragon twice once on 2 wheels and once on 3.

It was a combination of wet road a little speed and not anticipating that there was a quick turn at the end a of a pretty nice straight road (wandering mind).

I just had a new suspension installed on the rear, it may have contributed to the accident, but I doubt it.

I'll take all the advice given here and not ride on these roads in the rain in the future. Thanks for all the best wishes.

Have you seen a lot of WERA trike races/events? Just curious because I have never heard of them.

Nope, but I only saw one real F1 bike in ten years either. But I bet that they would let you go to school if you showed up with a properly prepared trike and if you could get 5 or six buddies might even start a class. And then there are track days ..

Just got MRI back on my shoulder. 2 torn tendons on the rotator cuff. Now I need an operation on top of a neck brace. Life is not much fun - at least for a few more months. May have to retire also - don't want to - I still have to pay for all this, but don't see how I will get to work.

Oh well - a day at a time. This riding season is over.

Gary, so sorry about your difficulties. I have lost a riding season due to injuries on two separate occassions. Hope you can stay positive, do what the docs say and concentrate on getting well. One thing that helped my recovery last year was a weekly 'beer therapy' session with several of my friends. Gave me something to look forward do and while I couldn't ride with them we could visit and talk about the rides we'd take after my recovery.

Just had the rotator cuff operation Monday. Excrusiating pain all day yesterday after the block wore off. Doubled dose on medication and all is OK today. Now the challenge begins = what should I do for a replacement for my 14 TG?

Only got $24K from insurance. Would like some input and thoughts on a 14,15 or16. I was contemplating a 17, but my H-D mechanic said I should stay away from the 17's. He doesn't have any skin in the game so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and concentrate on 14 to 16 models, besides they're more affordable.

My dealer said there are no differences between those years other then something about Blue Tooth which I don't care about.

Depending on mileage (usually low for each year) what would be, in you opinion, the pros and cons of each of those years?

I need some fuel for thought.

Good luck on your recovery from shoulder surgery. Make sure you do the physical therapy they prescribe. It really helps your recovery.

    What about the Freewheeler?.

You don't have to shy away from the New M8 motor. They have a few problems on a low percentage of them & it's very low.

I looked at the Freewheeler and if I was just going to ride locally then I would seriously think about it, but I do 2 to 3 long distance trips a year and the Freewheeler just wouldn't be able to handle it.

I'm getting even more negative opinions on the 17's. So I'm going to err on the safe side and stay with the older years.

I'm just trying to get others opinions here on the 14 -15- 16's which one has more negative issues.
