Default seat alignment on a MT

I just got my MT from the dealer and went to instal some accessories and when i got done i had a heck of a time trying to get the bolt holes lined up with the seat . I had to get on the seat and kneel on it above the bolt holes to get them to line up. on the left side of the seat while sitting on it the set hits the trike fender while on the right side it is about 1 inch from the fender. is there a way to make some kind of adjustment? thanks for any info. Ken

If this is on a Gold Wing, did you check the spacers didn't "move" when you took the seat of? Been there, done that.

If it is a Gold Wing you'd probably get more response in the Wing forum, I can move this thread, but, hesitate to do til I'm sure. PM me if that's something you'd like me to do.

Or maybe move it into the MT forum to get MT to chime in, Let me or any moderator know if you'd be interested in one of these options.

HOWDY KEN. I recall a fellow having this problem a year or two back. Don't know what the resolution was though.

Give Richard a call at Motor Trike. He'll help you sort it out. Has always been very helpful to me.

Usually what keeps the seat bolts from lining up is what is beneath the seat itself. If the wiring harnesses are not routed properly they will stop the seat from setting in the proper place. Also, any added under-the-seat accessories will stop it too. Make sure the seat is under the front lip as well.

    Hope this helps..............

In April 2017 I bought a new 2017 GL1800 LVL3 with new Motor Trike Adventure kit. There is a problem with every MT kit the dealer installs. The body of the kit does line up exactly with the frame of the bike. It sits as much as an inch off to the left. I cannot even mount the left side cover to the lower pins because they won't reach. The dealer has to grind off some of the inside area of the kit body. Two weeks ago they took me into the shop to show me a new installation in progress. They showed me where they have to grind off some of the body. They have reported this to MT several times, but it has not been resolved. There is a mention in a reply above about an MT forum. I see a forum list for almost every Kit Manufacturer but not MT. I have the same problem remounting the seat. I have to use a large tool I have that looks like a center punch. I use it to line up one of the bolt holes so I can get a bolt in the other hole. Usually I do the left side first. Sometimes I have to sit on the seat as you described. Fortunately, I have completed all the upgrades so I don't have to do this very often.

I am also unhappy with the ride. I am 155 and ride solo. It rides hard and bounces a lot over problems in the road. I have set the psi to 15, but the gauge under the right speaker grill has bounced to as much as 70 psi when riding. My previous ride was a 2009 GL1800 LVL1 with a DFT kit. Same roads but it rode much better. (I wrecked it in Jan 2013 - my fault).

Sharpening the end of the seat bolts makes it much easier to install them

Yes, it is the biggest pain when I take off the seat is to get it back on and try and line up those stinking holes.

Well, I'm usually a gawker, but a #2 phillips head screwdriver (maybe two) works perfectly for aligning the seat.

It was a pain on my 2012 CSC too!

What I found out that worked for me was to install the bolts through the seat on one side without the grab handle then you had some movement for the other side.

Once the other side is done it's fairly easy to install the grab handle on the first side then tighten up both sides.

On our last trike, a 1995 GL1500 with a Motor Trike conversion, had lineup problems with the custom seat we had on it. The Phillips screwdriver idea helps to line up the seat and frame holes, and I ground down the seat bolt ends to a dull point to help the bolts feed into the frame holes. There are also seat bolts you can buy that way (pics below). Did the same on our current GL1800, also with a custom seat. It also seems after I get frustrated, walk away and take a break the darn thing lines up perfectly the first time when I come back to it.

Its funny how a person does not pay attention to things until you own one . By this i mean i ride with a great group of friends and there is one other person that has the Razer conversion and it looks darn nice but i noticed that his grab handles where not tight on the seat when i was looking at his bike and he said that thats the way they came from the installer ( which was the same installer i used) after looking at it he came over and i tried to tighten up the seat bolts but they just kept turning so I thought they where striped out so we tried to take them out and they grabbed the threads and out they came. it turned out that the rubber bushing where not in the seat . So he called the installer the next day and they told him that they could not get the seat on with the bushings in the seat so they took them out . he asked if he could have them back so his seat would fit tight to his bike and they said they did not have them anymore . we ordered some from parts fish and when they caming we went to install then yesterday and sure enough we can not get the seat to to line up . He called the installer and talked to them and they told him thats just the way it is and he would have to live with it I am thinking that if it was not so far for us to ride to Motor trike in Texas that we should drive down there and have them show us what we are doing wrong to put the seat back on . After all when i met Jeff and his wife a few years back when i took a tour of there plant the group of us we where all told that they Motor Trike where all about integrity and customer service . I hope they still stand behind there statement. I understand that they are not responsible for the way there installers treat there customers as we are all human and react different and yes me to that is why i did not mention the name of the installer sometime I take things said the wrong way . So with that said thanks for letting me vent on this form.

My WAG is that your problem is suspension, not tire pressure. I think you're oversprung for the weight. I weigh about what you do and have had a doggie of a time sorting out my rear springs. How does it ride if you put a couple hundred pounds of ballast in the trunk?

Does this one have airbags, and if so, what are they inflated to?
