    Birthday Present


    my lovely wife has agreed to buy me the tuner of my choice for my 2017 Trike.

    im thinking either a PV or FPK 3....

    what would be the best and easiest for a novice tuner to install and use?

    im planning to remove the cat or purchase a header, rhinehart mufflers, SE breather. I don’t plane on any other upgrades. Doing this for more heat management than performance

    thanks for all all your advic

    PV for sure. I'm a complete novice but got my custom tune loaded no problem. I haven't used any of the advanced features yet but I will, and they're nice to have as you learn more about tuning. There are some nice temperature and other types of monitoring features that you don't get with the other tuner.

    +2 on the pv ... really easy, yet very powerful.

    Casper, Happy Birthday!!!

    I hope that you are aware that the mods you described are going to potentially invalidate the remaining factory warranty time on your Tri Glide. Sadly, due to the agreement between the MOCO and the EPA, those mods constitute a violation of the MOCO's agreement and they are reportedly fairly swift to blacklist warranties where substantial mods have been made to the fuel induction/muffler systems. My 2017 M8 TGU just started throwing a code (PO131) for the front O2 sensor and I am pretty sure that some Harley dealers wouldn't touch my trike for warranty work if I had done the mods that you are contemplating.

    Anyway, my post was still primarily slanted at wishing you another great spin around the Sun!

    No potentially about it. I spoke with the owner of a local dealer earlier today and in a conference that he went to with the MOCO, he was told if the MOCO finds a bike that has been tuned by ANY tuner other than what they sell, warranty is immediately kaput........

    Only experience with PV but if I can use it I'm sure you can it is so much more than "just a tuner" the features it delivers complete ECM management. Check them out I got mine from DK Customs with great support from Fuel Moto. I have also sent mine back to Dyno Jet for a check up at no charge. Also great people there in Nevada may be others as good I only speak of what I know. travel safe Fred

    IMO, Harley will NOT get away with this for long

    If the after market like Power Vision wants to stay in the game they will step up and get their tuner EPA approved

    Harley must have pulled a lot of strings when they brokered this deal knowing full well they had already broken the law many times over not to mention the bikes that were probably traded in and re sold with non EPA tunes on them JMO

    yeah, I know but warranty expires January 2019 and after the 10,000 mile service I’m putting my trailer hitch back on for my Bushtec and PRG flag, so that will effect the warranty too....I’ll just have to deal with it. Thanks for the birthday wishes...

    I agree with you that they pulled a lot of strings, and they brokered the consent decree to be written THEIR WAY, so they could blame the EPA and play the victim. I don't agree, however that they won't get away with it for long. They are a huge corporation, and they have WAAAAAY more and higher priced attorneys than we do, as well as having the politicians in their pocket......

    The PV does alot.Way more than I need.Have the FP3 on the '14 Dyna and the J series on the 09 Sportster.All ya need for a stage 1.Don't be a sucker and do "Stages".What's the posted speed limit out there.Not fast enough to die?

    2017 Tri Glide Ultra All mods so far have been for comfort.

    You can ask the service plan provider that question, But sometime just asking that question will void the warranty........

    Had one of my two O2 sensors replaced under warranty and was asking the Service Writer if the dealership has been invalidating warranties on 2017/2018 bikes for non-approved mods and with a somewhat gleeful smile, he said, "Yes, frequently". The service writer is a nice guy but his response was somewhat strong and I suspect portends a desire on the part of the dealers to shut out competition on their bikes from 2017 forward for after sales components. He stated "When I have to call Harley with a warranty claim, I have to tell them about the mods that the customer has done that are not approved" and he said that this has resulted in at least one denial of a $6-7k warranty claim and numerous permanent invalidations of remaining factory warranties. In my previous post, I was trying to be kind to our Birthday Boy by using less strong language in my congratulatory post but it appears that Harley is playing hardball when it comes to deviating from their "approved" aftermarket drivetrain/engine/exhaust components.

    The Service Writer even challenged my installation of some Love Jugs suggesting that if they are wired incorrectly that they are causing codes to pop up. I clearly advised him that I used the "approved" Harley auxiliary 8-pin power cord connected to the existing extra power outlet which is only about a $22 part and the external Love Jugs in no way would impact the ECU via any wiring abnormalities and that the new M8 engines electrical systems were increased to accommodate external loads from add-on electrical components. What is kind of sad is that additions like the Love Jugs add superior cooling in parade situations that can help the M8 engines to not cook themselves in their own very hot internal engine oil baths under low airflow situations.

    I think as others have pointed out, Harley and some of their dealers may be using this consent decree as a scare tactic to discourage other aftermarket vendor sales and to get business for only Harley parts from the MOCO.

    This is the part I have issues with,How can this fly?

    It gives HD cart blanch to hold every one hostage on parts

    Seems to me this should be a conflict of interests at least?

    I will take my tuner off and put my stock air box back on when I have to take mine in for warranty work

    Jack, The draconian measures are certainly not helping Harley's stock price as it is near a 52-week low today and with the potential for some potential trade wars where Harleys have been specifically singled out as a product to incur tariffs in other countries, it may be even more negatively impacted moving forward. I would hope that Matt Lavatich (Harley CEO) who seems like a smart guy would get his team together and figure out how to be as customer friendly as they can be to retain the current owners and secure new riders to the brand under the current domestic and international pressures that are being exerted on the MOCO.

    Jack, I feel for folks like the good people at DK Customs who are trying to carve out a living providing improvement parts for our rides and verifying the improvements in engine performance with hard data. Case in point is the oil cooler/relocation kits. I sure as hell wouldn't be putting one of those on my 2017 or newer Harley given the already sketchy introduction the MOCO had with some of the M8's (albeit a limited number of engines) that were detonating due to oil pump/debris issues and the installation would only put the newer bikes/trikes at risk of having factory warranties invalidated.
