Default backing gl1800 trike up a rhino ramp

Has anyone been able to back their trike up a ramp for repairs? I've had to be off the trike and pull on the handle bars to help it up, then it barely makes it and it is a struggle. It's a MT Razor with aqua shields.

    Default Backing Up a Ramp

Gold Rush on this forum sent me a set of plans to build ramps to drive up on, not back up. I built a set of three ramps. They don't look as good a Gold Rush's but they work. Send me a PM with your email and I should be able to send the plans to you.

I also have a MT Razor with aqua shields.

Good morning Jay. The reverse drive is not intended for steep inclines. That is putting a LOT of stress on your starter motor.

Glad to hear they are working for you Don!

I am able to drive forward up onto 3 ramps, but the front ramp is tough to work around to change the oil filter. My local MT dealer (80 miles away) told me to back it up the ramps and jack the front up. I did it, but the I think it puts too much strain on the starter motor. I just wondered if anyone else has tried the "back up" technique while standing along side the trike.. Thanks guys.

Take a look at these photos Jay. You may like to try them... Easy to build and ramp section lifts away for easy access to pieces and parts.

Don't know about 1800s, but my '97 GL1500 Lehman trike will do it, I position my rino ramps, place in neutral and flip the lever, stand beside seat on right, press start button and she backs up. I rarely ever use reverse for anything though, trike with no wide running boards is easier to push backwards than a bike usually.

Often I jack trike up with floor jack, use stands under frame or slide some ramps under tires.

But now that I look at Gold Rushes' pics, might build me a set of three, and fix them so ramp part can be used on either end of block portion so drive on / drive off as needed.

I know this is a pricey way to go, but, if you've got the jing, they're nice.

Yes, you've got to get 2 pair.

That said, I pull forward on/up.

To get the trike off, I stand beside it, operate reverse, and have to give a little push to get the tires out of the hole.

If you have the jing and a trike buddy has the jing you could split the cost of the second set.

The 1800s have no issue doing it. Just make sure you have the ramps up against the rear wheels and that theyre square to the bike. Start the bike and make sure the front end is straight and just back her up the ramps. Ive been doing it this way for 11 years with no issues with a Lehman Monarch II.

I took a 10x12x2 board and cut six 6 pieces a foot long and then glued&screwed two of them together.... so now I have 3 one foot boards and jacked up my bike and put one under each wheel.. This lifts the bike up 4inches, high enough to at least work under it, to change oil and filter..

    I use regular car ramps.

Square them up, make sure they don't slide (mine has a rubber pad on the bottom leading edge), stand along side, throw her in reverse and back her up.

I have MT Razor and shields also.

There's just no way I back my GW anywhere I don't have to, starter replacement is very expensive. I find I have to back it up, I'm off the machine and walking it.

I finally twisted off and bought one of these. Wish I had done it years ago.

I have a 1800 MT Razor and I pull mine onto 3 ramps. You just have to put the rear ramps up close to the floor boards and tight to the front of the tire.

I drive mine up the rhino ramps. You can kick the front wheel ramp off to the side enough to get a pan under it. I have also just jacked up the back and put the ramps under. Then Jacked up the front and put that ramp in reverse to get a large pan under it. This way I can grease all the back ujoint as well. The front is easy. But have to have the rear wheels in the air and in neutral to turn the rear wheel and get a good angle on the front ujoint.

Huge mistake to back a GW trike up onto ramps, in my opinion. I doubt it would even power up. Backing is by starter motor, seems a starter burnout would be the result. If I have to use ramps, a drive up is not that difficult, slow and easy is your friend.

Default Backing up my MT Razor

I have a Gl1800 (2008) with a 2015 MT Razor kit. I use 3 rhino ramps too but I pull my forward onto the ramps. You have to put the rear ramps right up against the front of the rear tires and up against the side of the floorboards. There’s not any room to spare but it works fine. The rear tires will sit about 90% on the ramps with the remainder hanging off the inside edge of the ramps - but it’s solid.
