Default HD Auxillary input cable/plug in

Okay, so I decided to get an aux input cable so I could use one SiriusXM radio on my truck, my bike and my house.

I ordered it and was told that HD needed to "program" the radio on the bike to "acknowledge" the plug, 1 hour labor charge. So I asked how much to install and program for it, 1 hour labor.

No brainer right? So I ordered the cable, made an appointment to install it. The day came to do the install. Two hours later, they finally got the radio to acknowledge the cord. Since there was no Sirius in the Shop (blocked antenna), I paid for the hour labor and headed home.

Nada getting into the radio fro the Sirius. So, I'm thinking the cord I ran back to the Tour Pak (under the faring, under the tank, under the seat, into the tour pak and to the dock) might be bad. I take the outer faring off, disconnect my cord and put my iPod on the aux cable, Nada. Tried my iPad, Nada, tried an older iPod, Nada.

So I go to HD's website and look at the reviews for this cord. There are two of the four that state the instructions to install this cord are incorrect, but all four say it works as described. So I cut and paste these two wrong instruction reviews into a word file, call the HD shop to talk to them. They made me an appointment to "check it out".

Went yesterday and spent another two and a half hours while they scratched their heads. Finally they call HD Tech support. An hour later, they all agreed that the cord was installed correctly. I was bracing for the "it's just the way it is" reasoning, when I asked them could the new cord purchased from Harley be bad?

So, I am now waiting for a new cord, new appointment and a new excuse.

I'm hoping someone here has installed this cord and maybe has some insight. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I have not done so yet, but I was going to add the cable for the ipod, and sit the ipod in the media door compartment. I figured it would be a plug and play, just a simple cable into an existing aux port on the radio. Please keep us up to date on this.

I installed my XM radio on the handle bar. Used the cable from the XM Radio and just plugged it into the Aux jack plug on the HD Radio. Aux shows on the screen of the HD radio that it's turned on. I did not program anything, just plug in.

With my 2017 Tri-Glide....I don't use the radio at all...I just plug my iPod, or my thumb drive[s] into the UBS plug in the media compartment, And all the controls on the handle bars operate it..[My iPod fits right in the compartment]

Unfortunately, there is no aux plug in standard with the Rushmore Infotainment Radio's ... Not sure why, unless it's to grab more of our hard earned money.

If you read the reviews on Harley's web site, they all "claim the plug works well", but, so far not for me ... my bike has the sirius module installed, but, I'm trying to get by with one subscription. After all, I can only be on or in one vehicle at a time.

Since the radio I have, is not waterproof or resistant, I wanted to mount the dock inside the tour pak. All that worked fine. I can put the radio in the tour pak, turn it on and listen with a set of earbuds to the radio by plugging it into my cord I ran. The issue is to get the sound into the infotainment system. I only listen to one channel, the message, so I won't need to be able to change it from the riders spot.

I will keep the group updated ... hopefully the cord that is coming will fix the issue.

As stated the Rushmore infotainment / radio systems have no Aux input jack and you must buy the cable for it. I have personally done this on four different bikes for myself and friends with no problem. After hooking up the cable the dealer must flash the radio to allow for the Aux input. When you scroll through your input sources such as AM - FM - USB - Weather Band - Sirius XM if you have it in the radio - you should also get Aux as an input source after the flash is done correctly. If you don't then the problem may be that the radio was not flashed correctly.

I do get the Aux as an option, but, it just doesn't allow any input from any source attached to that cable to get to the radio. I'm guessing the cable is bad. Glad to know you've done them with the Sirius XM module installed. Harley was thinking that maybe the XM module was causing interference.

The other thing I noticed is it takes about 30-40 seconds after the radio boots up for the aux to show up as an option ... is that true on the ones you've done?

I'm guessing near the end of next week I'll have to bring the bike back in and have them replace the cable and see if that's the issue. I'll keep ya updated.

Do you have a CB installed on the bike? Reason I ask is because the Aux input cable plugs in to the radio the same place the CB module plugs in. So if you have a CB then you must de-pin the three wires from the Aux input cable plug and put those three wires into the plug your CB module has. The slots on the CB plug are unused and the Aux cable wires go right in to them. If you do have a CB then perhaps the tech didn't put the wires for the Aux input cable in the correct slots.

Yea, I do have a CB (don't use it, but, I do have it). According to three master techs at my dealer, they spent an hour with HD Tech support going wire by wire, pin by pin. It was supposed to of been installed correctly. I have my doubts. The reason I had HD do the install, was because I didn't want to have to buy a de-pinning tool (I was told it was about $60) and, HD was gonna charge me the same hour of labor to flash the radio as they would to install it AND flash the radio. In hindsight, maybe I should of done it myself. But, now if it doesn't work with the new cord, I'll tell them to take it and return my money. I can always have the SiriusXM radio broadcast to FM.

    Default Update

The new aux cable is in and I have an appointment to have HD swap them out on 7/6. This time of year, two weeks isn't all that bad.

    I'll keep you guys updated.

    Default Update

So today I bring the bike to the HD Shop ... it was a bad plug from HD. Works fine now.

So here's the rub, After they wash the bike, they want $559.78 for labor and the new plug. Imagine my surprise.

So I asked, "So I purchase an HD part, installed by HD techs that was faulty, and I have to pay for the HD tech to troubleshoot his install and for a replacement plug and also for the HD tech to install the replacement?"

    The response was, "Yep".

As a Christian, my response was not repeatable (Sorry Lord, but, you know I'm week and sometimes revert to my sailor days). After I calmed down, I explained that HD has a one year warrantee on their accessories (apparently, the service manager didn't realize that). And since they couldn't ever get it to work, and replacing the cord made it work, isn't that warrantee? They said labor wasn't covered by warrantee. I said, "So, If I have you put new cams in my bike, and the cam cracks in a minute, you wouldn't cover the labor?"

    The response was, "Nope".

So I said, "Get me the owner, my customer and I'll ask him."

I was then told that they would discount the labor and warrantee the plug, I said, as long as the discount for the additional labor was 100% we are fine. They didn't realize I had already paid an hour labor to install it and flash the radio. After all the smoke cleared I rode out paying nothing additional. So we are good. But, it goes to show that if given a chance, they will try to rip you off. Pay attention to what they want you to pay for.
