Default Monarch II LLS Bottoming out

Just had the Lehman Monarch II LLS added to my 2002 GL1800. Went for a day trip with my wife and Bushtec trailer. My wife and I have a combined weight of 340 lbs and I had 20 lbs trailer tongue weight on the hitch. Going over depressions in the road (normal road conditions) the tires rubbed inside the fenders (bottoming out). The Trike has the Adjustable Lean Control and it was set to firm. My mechanic friend pulled off one wheel to have a look. The body is mounted tight to the chassis although I saw something mentioned in the installation instructions about a 7/8" spacer. Not sure if there is supposed to be spacers between the body and chassis.

I spoke to the dealer and am taking it back next week. I mentioned the body mounted tight to the chassis and he said they just need to make adjustments to the suspension. 1-2 hours work. Not sure what kind of adjustment he means.

I am hoping someone can shed some light on this.

    Thanks

    Moneypenny

Hi Mark. Another Texas welcome to you.

Also no help here. I did have a 2008 GW with the Monarch II kit - no problems with the ride quality or body rub anywhere. Sure hope you get this resolved satisfactorily and quickly.

Mark, Welcome to Trike Talk Forum from West Virginia.

The undercarriage for the Monarch II LLS is basically a Champion IRS setup.

The bodies of the Champion and Lehman are dimensionally different and that is the reason the spacers are needed. It could also be necessary to space the upper tour trunk to allow access to the trunk lever. There is also an adjustment for ride height on your coil-over shocks that can be changed a little at a time.

Thanks for your input Lee. Just to confirm, there must be spacers used regardless of adjustment to the coil-over shocks, correct? This would result in space between the body and chassis and close the gap between the body and tour trunk. Right now I have about 1.5" of space there.

Is the adjustment of the coil-over shock just setting the shock different or is it something else?

Yes, the spacers are used regardless of shock settings. I would only, after making the body adjustment, do one turn on each rear shock to gain a little height. Ride it and see if it still tries to bottom out. If you do space the body with the proper spacers, there might be clearance issues for upper trunk access.

This is terrific help Lee! I compared the installation manuals for both Lehman and Champion and only Lehman calls for the spacers. My friend Rick was right; you knowledge is incredible.

    Thanks again!

    Default Hanks low ride trike

The A arms were replaced also at 12 K miles and it now has 41K road scraping miles on it- I know it's good to have a low center of gravity so the bike will hold the road-but

It would be nice if HD would get on the bandwagon of using the IRS being it’s a Lehman. They need competition, wake up Honda , Indian !
