Automatic Volume Control?

I have a 2015 TG and have a question about the automatic volume control that is supposed to increase or decrease the volume for the radio depending on speed/ambient noise. My wife and I almost always use our helmet headsets when riding and have found that the AVC does nothing to change the volume even though I have it on the highest setting. But when using the speakers, it works just fine.

I have asked several people at a couple different dealers about this and the only answer I have gotten is that "apparently it is only supposed to work for the speakers but not the headsets." My previous bike was an '09 Ultra and I realize that it had an entirely different stereo set-up than what the trike has, but it did have AVC and it worked for both the headsets and the speakers. So I'm wondering if there is something wrong with mine or if the dealer is right about it not working for headsets which seems kinda stupid. Oh, and I have had several updates done to the software for the infotainment system and none of them have changed this issue.

In a related issue, I have also had no luck getting a ring tone to work for incoming calls. Several times I have followed the manuals instructions on how to select a ring tone and it always says that the ring tone has been set. But every time I get an incoming call, no ring tone. It just mutes the radio and displays the callers number. I can receive and make calls just fine, just can't get the ring tone to work!

I know this is apples and oranges but my Indian is the same way. The reason on my Indian is the speakers operate off the digital portion of the bike and my headset is analog. May not be what your problem is but there's a chance I suppose. In my case it's because I have a J&M CB and Indian/Polaris doesn't support a CB at all. Your Harley is supposed to though. If there is any Bluetooth stuff going on, that too can cause odd problems depending on which item is paired first. Not the answer you are looking for so I'll give you the Harley answer. They all do that.

have someone call you when you are connected to the bike and while it is ringing (do not answer it) adjust the volume up on the handle bar switch. also make sure it is going to the correct location as in headset verses the bike speakers. I kept turning the ring volume down with out realizing it, when I got my 18. I can't remember on my 10 if the AVC system worked through the headset. I don't think it did, I have it turned off since I have a different amp and speakers in my 18 per the manufactures recommendation.

Thanks for the reply hogcowboy. So yeah, apples to oranges. As I recall, Indian doesn't include jacks for wired headsets, so you have to use Bluetooth. The only Bluetooth gadget I have paired with the infotainment system is my phone and it works fine, other than no ringtone.

Standard Harley answer: "They all do that". Sounds about right! :-)

I would love to figure out how to have the phone "pair" with the bike, but, not the phone part. I'd love to be able to hear the audio books, without hearing people call me. Last thing I want is to answer the phone while riding ... that's why I ride .. to get away from the phone ...

I'm not 100% sure but you could put it in Airplane mode to turn off cellular, bluetooh should work for music.

On my phone airplane mode kills all the radios, WiFi, Bluetooth and the phone ... iPhone X. If Harley would of made the media slot just about two inches deeper ... all would be good, when you plug the cord in, the phone is too long. Of course ... since the advent of the lightning connector, you can't charge and listen anyway. Which is why I put the phone in the tour pak on the charger and listen to the books. The power/mute button even passes the book when I need to fill. Maybe if I remove the sim card????

My iPod Nano works well with the audible books, but, doesn't sync with the phone like other app do. For example, I listen to the Stand, a twenty seven hour book, unless I'm riding to Paris ... LOL ... at some point, I'd like to finish the book off the bike, I don't like headphones so the iPod doesn't work for me when not on the bike. The other negative with the iPod and audible, for some reason chapter 7 on the iPod is not chapter 7 on the phone, so even if I stop the book at a chapter end, I just can't go to that chapter on the phone. Weird ... I want it all .... .

If I could figure how to put an iTunes playlist, or better yet, an Audible book on a usb or smart drive, that would work.

I might just use an old iPhone 4 I think.as a media player, it would sync and work I think. The battery in the phone is dead, so it would work,

I do not have an iphone to test this, try Turning on airplane mode, then re-enabling Wi-Fi and Bluetooth is currently the only option.

When you have a few neurons as I do ... they don't overheat ... ever. To generate heat, you need lots of little neurons vibrating and bouncing into each other ... I don't have that issue ... how's that for techie. Mine don't vibrate into each other, just bounce around the void and sometimes ... They sometimes go off the reservation.
