Default A Softer Ride Report on My Road Smith

For some years now I've posted from time to time that my 2005 GW/2012 Road Smith ride was a bit more harsh than I preferred, all else seemed perfect on the conversion. So, let me 'splain, some years ago I had my seat rebuilt by some dufus at a bike fest, bad decision. Recently I had the seat rebuild by a professional at a professional price. He showed me what was in that seat that he had to replace, it was awful. Bottom line, long ride this past weekend, a soft world of difference, so my purpose in this post is correct the information about my earlier comments on the Road Smith suspension and how it might be better. It was not the Road Smith suspension, any harshness was in the front fork and the seat. My sincere apologies to Road Smith for any disparities I might have conveyed in my comments. By the way, my passenger is way happier, no grunts or groans on those irregular pavements.

Glad you got it resolved. Mine rides pretty hard but I set it up that way to run the twisties. Still better than most.

Can you tell us who the professional seat guy is? Others may be interested in putting his talents to good use.

Yes Mike, good point, this 'old hippie', started doing m/c seats back in the 'chopper' days for a lot of the famous scooter folks whose name you'd recognize and had the articles to prove it. Guy's name is Brian Snyder, Stitch on Time, in St Petersburg, FL. Here's the Linkedin link: https://www.linkedin.com/in/brian-snyder-35785431/

Or, link to his web site.....www.asweetseat.com. he's one of those guys that you could sit and listen to the old school stories until the bar tender ran out of draft.

Instead of buying a very expensive seat................ Try going to a Walmart, OR a seat cushion building person, and just get a seat cushion, and place it on top of your stock seat, WHAT A DIFFERENCE THAT MAKES...............For less then $10.00 you have the best of both worlds, stock when you want stock OR comfy when on a long ride... I can go for hours and hours and miles and miles now with/out any discomfort............100% difference!

Ronnie, can you post a pic of this cushion you got at WalMart? I've read several of your positive comments, so you've got my attention. I've not mastered the picture thing here yet, but if you have, consider posting a pic of your cushion.

Thanks for asking about a picture, BUT like yourself, (I have no idea how to post a picture) heck, I'm still a one finger'd type'r...

Suggestion here only: Go to a Walmart (or any store that carries seat cushions) and look around for a size that fit's your stock motorcycle seat, all I do is just place cushion on top of seat and off I go, on long rides... I have a couple of times, let fellow rider(s), (that have flaming butts) from long rides use it, for a bit, just to clam down their hemorrhoids ..lol

I have to say for under $10.00 for the cushion, ALL my rides have been, pain free, and much more comfortable, on the butt, sitting on something much more comfy then the stock seat!

It really make a "world of difference" in my comfort zone!! AND I DIDN'T HAVE TO SHOVEL OUT HUNDRED'S OR $$$ THOUSAND DOLLARS..

    Ronnie

ps: Sorry seat maker's for raining on your parade!!

    Bill,

You know this is funny, all my working life (I have always worked two jobs a day, even when I retired I still worked my heating /plumbing biz ,24 hours a day)....and I always "thought" someday when I retire, I would have all the time in the world, just to stop, and smell the roses (whatever the heck that means??) well now that I'm totally retired at 68 yrs old, I'm still not taking the time to learn silly things like "putting pictures on a computer" or other stuff like that.... All I want to do now is just ride my motorcycle, and live stress free. All my time now, is to do nothing....I have no time to learn stuff like putting pictures on a computer, I'm way toooooo busy doing nothing! LOL!

Ronnie, do believe you have nailed it with that fine comment. There are times I do believe I cannot learn another thing about computers, 'how to' do this, 'how to' do that......If it's simple, yeah maybe, but check it out, there are times when simple is not simple any more, maybe it's an age thing.

    O'Yea!

I'm not sure if getting old is good or not, "things that I use to do" now take longer! BUT sometimes longer is better! I think!!! lol

One could say, "softer is better". What is that tune by Toby Keith, 'As good As I Once Was'? Some of us 'old timers' knows how that goes. Notice that I continued the thread theme by using the word 'softer'.

    You "rock" my friend!

yep! I spent 53 years of my life working two jobs, and only dreamt, about being able to sit back and not having to get up at 4:30 in the AM, just to satisfied a boss, and or company, that paid me crap, well, that time has come, and I'm totally enjoying, my R-E-T-I-R-E-D life... at 68 years old....[Funny thing is that I still get up early, have my coffee, BUT I'm relax'd, here it is at 7:50 am, and still just sitting here in front of the computer, just thinking what to do today, until wife gets up and has a "honeydo" list ready!! LOL

    Bill,

How far is Clearwater Fla. from lakeland?? We've been going to C/Water for a quick vacation, "get-a-way" and possibly go again this winter...Last year I had the pleasure of meeting Goldwinger Gregg, at his shop, (what a wonderful guy to talk too in person, I was amazed that he took his time, to stop his working, to visit with my wife and I)

I supposed I could just look at a map before I asked this question, BUT as you can see I didn't) lol

A little short of 60 miles, Now the trick is, navigating I-4 which can be a real bitch, especially if ya don't pick the right time. Now throw in an iffy fender bender, welcome to a big parking lot. Clearwater is a very nice place if ya like the beach.

Right on Sir Ronnie, since no PM, just shoot me an email, bikerbillwms@yahoo.com, I get you out a cell phone #. You might want to take a shot at the Maggie Valley Ride in if it works for your schedule.
