Hurt the Warranty?
I was wondereing if, Triking a Honda Goldwing effects the warranty like Harley Davison does? Seems like everything you do to a Harley that's not sanctioned by the Company cancels the warranty. Seems like it 's OK to trike out a Goldwing. Just wondering. Thanks. Jerry

I wouldn’t plan on engine/tranny being covered. But it will take someone who’s dealt with it to confirm.
When I had the break recall done on my 2013 Gold Wing done all that was said is it will take 3 hours because it is a trike. The labor was free.
Since many dealers sell/install trike kits, they seem to work out the warranty issues. Basically, Honda covers the front and the trike mfg covers the rear. Where there is a question of overlap the dealers seem to get it done with Mother Honda.

Actually, because I called Honda when I was considering a trike, I was told if there was a drive train issue as long as the dealer didn't note the bike was triked, probably(big word there) it would be covered.
If a factory rep showed up to review the failure and noted the bike was triked, no warranty on the drive train.
The problem that concerned me was the fact there are very few Honda dealers set up to work on a trike, warranty or not!!

Years ago, I purchased, a 2001 Goldwing with a Tow-Pac conversion on it. Ran great. I purchased a set of tires from E-Bay. Called the local Honda dealer and asked them if they would install them. They said no problem. They installed them at very reasonable price too. While they were working on the bike, they entered the Vin # and found out that the rear brake recall was never done. So they did that for me. No cost for that. I find that, more and more dealerships are doing work just to keep thier workers busy, even though the parts were purchased elsewhere. Great for me anyway. I'm guessing that most dealers are like my Harley Dealership when I asked him about changing exhaust, trailer hitch ...etc.
His comment was, you bring it here for warrantee work, it'll get fixed. No issues.
You break down in someplace else and bring it to a dealer there, it's hit of miss. If the service manager has had a fight with his wife .... you may take the brunt and he'll tag your bike as "modified" and no dealer can do work on it. If he's very happy, He'll do the work and no issues.
But, if it's a big ticket job, where the rep has to approve it ... you gotta remember that the rep's job is to save the manufacturer money. If you think he's there to help you ... well ... I got a bridge I'll sell you.
The warranty on that bike was long over. Also, when I was going to purchase the DK lift kit, the Harley dealership said they would install it. Again, just to keep their workers busy. They actually sell the Legend lift kit. But I didn't want that brand. But still they would have installed the DK lift.

Doing a Brake Recall and Replacing a clutch under warranty on a trike are separate issues. I don't believe Honda would do the warranty repair on a bike which was converted to a trike. If the dealer decided to not note it as a trike, then that's on him and I doubt Honda would look kindly on his omission, whether or not he sells trikes.
Yep Fuzz, totally agree. Warranty work is difficult at best, so many hoops to jump through, down time, the 'what ifs'.
My buddy rides Triglides. Had a 2014, and had all kinds of problems with it. Bought a new 2018 last year. Tranny has been replaced, problems with suspension, and now had a on off switch fall apart and been waiting 5 wks for a replacement. Had problems with tranny fluid being sucked into the Primary. The dealer told him if he installed a trailer hitch and used it it would void the warranty. Why?
Because thats their warranty policy.........And he doesn't even have to use it, If its there the warranty is done...
